The Demonland 'Most Entertaining' poster award

Featured Replies

I've stickied the thread so that it does not get lost with all the other topics.

Voting closes on Sat, Sep 15th at 5pm.

I must admit I find this backslapping communal ego boost a tad unnecessary.

Personally I pine for the 'glory days' of Demonland.

Where posters such as Deefan, Whispering Jack, Go Johno, Wheels, Spunjy, Demonland, Ash, Kidd Robb, Deebest and of course JC (amoungst others) would constantly deliver tremendous football discussion and analysis.

can't help but feel posting has gone the way of political campaigning. The sound bite has taken over from reasoned policy debate.

3 - yze magic - such bizzare outrageous comments

2- rhino richards- say somthin positive please!

1- clint bizkit- always pops up at the right time

That's a fair comment, right right that in those days rewards like this would have been completely unnecessary however if you looked back a bit further before those 'glory days', as you described it, both demonland and 'ology were full of virtual open warfare - I'm referring to the dreaded aftermath of the merger days with the Joe vs the rest situation. A thread couldn't go without half a dozen posts before it turned personal and deteriorated into a slanging match.

I believe that places like demonland truly reflect the health of the club, and right anything to encourage good healthy debates should be encouraged. If not then there's no one forcing anyone to contribute or even open this particular thread.

'ology seems to be continuous sniping and abuse between posters - there is next to nothing of that here on 'land - just in-depth information and discussion about players and tactics .

Plus the 'ology Mods (well, essentially only one of them) has been locking threads due to duplication - power has gone to the head of the unskilled.

A lot of posters are saying they are peed off and 'retiring' - ology is currently off the air - is that an omen?

Actually, anyone who wins one of these awards can have their title changed (i.e.- 'red and blue' or 'master demon') to say 'winner- most entertaining poster 2007'.

If you're a winner and you'd like your title changed, you can PM me and I'll do it for you.

(No PMs from losers  ).

Coming third in a popularity contest ?? does that make you Miss Congeniality or something ?? lol

My time on Demonland has been one hell of a journey, with many ups and downs.

I would like to recall a story from my childhood that will perhaps let the wider Demonland community get to know Yze_magic a little more intimately.

Ray Brower's body was found. But neither our gang nor their gang got the credit. In the end we decided that an anonymous phone-call was the best thing to do. We headed home. And although many thoughts raced through our minds we barely spoke. We walked through the night and made it back to Castle Rock a little past five o'clock on Sunday morning, the day before Labor Day. We'd only been gone two days. But somehow the town seemed different. Smaller.

As time went on we saw less and less of Teddy and Vern until eventually they became just two more faces in the halls. That happens sometimes. Friends come in and out of your life like busboys in a restaurant. I heard that Vern got married out of High-school, had four kids and is now the forklift operator at the Arsenal Lumberyard. Teddy tried several times to get into the Army but his eyes and his ear kept him out. The last I heard, he'd spent some time in jail. He was now doing odd jobs around Castle Rock.

Chris did get out. He enrolled in the College-courses with me. And although it was hard he gutted it out like he always did. He went on to College and eventually became a lawyer. Last week he entered a fast food restaurant. Just ahead of him, two men got into an argument. One of them pulled a knife. Chris who would always make the best peace tried to break it up. He was stabbed in the throat. He died almost instantly.

Although I haven't seen him in more than ten years I know I'll miss him forever. I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anybody?

And lastly I would like to thank my Gods - George Harrison, David Bowie and John Frusciante

Thankyou

Can we vote for an avator that no longer exists ie. Clint Bizkit's former one??

As proud of that avatar as I am, I think I prefer my picture current of Jesus playing football. Even if it is American football, he is seemingly using the infamous "run and carry" tactic.

This is of course significant because of my new display name.

and now for the second award

?

Sorry DS, had a very busy day, the next one will be up in 5 mins.

Once again well done to YM, and to give the guys here on demonland who don't visit bigfooty an insight into what he is capable of my favourite YM moment was when he had half of the Bigfooty community believing that he was going to be drafted a couple of years ago. He set a standard that others like Zeke tried to imitate for years afterwards and they still talk about him over there from time to time....

  • GAMEDAY: Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
