is it just me, or have there been an extraordinary number of big name retirees this year?

Mark Ricciuto, Chris Johnson, Chris Scott, Michael Voss, Anthony Koutoufides, Matthew Lappin, James Clement, James Hird, Troy Cook, Shane Parker, Ben Dixon, Richie Vandenberg, Glenn Archer, Jonathan Hay, Clint Bizzell, Nathan Brown, Byron Pickett, Josh Mahoney, Michael Wilson, Darryl Wakelin, Darren Gaspar, Ray Hall, Kent Kingsley, Trent Knobel, Fraser Gehrig, Aaron Hamill, Andrew Thompson, Brett Voss, Rowan Jones, Josh Wooden, Luke Darcy, Brett Montgomery, Matthew Robbins,

ok i know there are a lot of average players retiring also but there is a lot of cream in that is, is it more than normal?

allen and fixter from brisbane have been delisted

Pick 3 in the PSD?

Could it be possible to recruit Shane Valenti with this pick?

Anything's possible. I'm fairly confident Valenti won't be drafted though.

Why do you say that?

It's a weak draft year... Do you know something we don't?

No, don't know anything out of the ordinary, but it's not that common for midfielders to be plucked out of the VFL. The odds are stacked against him.

That said though, at the rate we're going we're going to have 8+ vacancies on our list and no picks before the 50s. We might not have any choice but to draft one or two "senior" players like Valenti.

Mmm. I see...

From what I've seen, yes the guy is tiny... but he's a class act in so many ways. Really a cut above his team-mates... and he's in and under, unlike CJ.

I think it may have worked in his favour NOT being recruited at an early age. Had he been signed at 18 I reckon he would REALLY have gone by the wayside. Being mature now, and being hungry... If he was ever to be recruited it would be now.

Traded: Chris Judd's dignity

chris heffernan retired? wow didn't see that coming

Why is Michael Voss listed as retired this year?

Why is Michael Voss listed as retired this year?

Because he still had a year to go on his contract when he retired last year so technically he was still on the Brisbane list for this year.

mark bolton from essendon has retired at the ripe age of 27.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
