Thanks Gouga. About time someone recognised the performance of some of our defenders tonight. I thought Ferguson was fantastic and Carroll was also very good.

Rhino: I need some clarification on the Bate vote. I thought he continually jibbed contests and in a side that was throwing itself in and trying really hard, it was painfully obvious to see.

Scoop-- Bate did his ankle earlier in the game and could not run but he epitomised the fighting spirit and played on and made the best contest he could. THe last vote you could have split between a number of players.

Admire the effort to play on but head over the footy and eyes on the ball are non-negotiables and he let his teammates down. It's frustrating - he's got a lot of ability but he won't make it if he doesn't get harder.

Agreed.

Ferguson was very good tonight. He played with a lot of heart - he was courageous, spoiled strongly and really helped out Carroll when he was forced to play on Rocca. I know often people question his skill, but never can one question his character on the field.

Agreed.

Bate shows so much promise in most aspects of his game but can't seem to bring it all together. Needs to know he belongs at AFL level and find the tenacity missing from his game.

(also: i know he was reknowed for his athletisicm as a junior, but is it just me or does he have a massive turning circle? is it his agility or something else?)

Apologies to Dunn who, whilst not being in my top 6, really played above himself tonight and stood up when needed. Promising signs.

BIG RED SIGNING IN:

Was I at the same game tonight. James McDonald is the most over rated player in our side. Yes he tries hard, runs hard and he puts his body on the line. Time and time again though once he gets the ball we are in a worse position once he disposes of it than we were before hand in nearly all occasions. How many of his disposals tonight put us to advantage? He bombs to a contest, handballs to players under pressure and continually misses targets. His tackle count is always high because he is usually second to the contest. He would not get a game in any half decent side and we talk up his performances like he is a champion.

That's what I thought about last night; didn't think he had much of a night at all. I'm stunned that he's getting all the 6s.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025.
