Sheedy wants the MFC coaching job - inside word

Well quite obviously Dean Bailey has blown away the selection sub-commitee with his presentation.

The whole football community were shocked that he made it to the shortlist of five, let alone securing the job.

My source, who has dinner with Sheedy once a week, stands by what he told me and what I wrote, that Sheedy was offered the job from the MFC early on in the piece (the mod's made me delete this part of my post).

I am a little upset that Sheedy didn't get the job, but knowing what was told to Sheedy, i am quite confident that Dean Bailey must has been exceptionally impressive for him to be given the job over Sheedy.

I have total confidence in the selection sub-commitee.

To anyone that wants to have a crack at me, i say this, I risked a fair bit to post what i was told in confidence.

I posted this information as this is what this forum is all about.

If any of you had heard what i had heard from the type of source that i had heard from, i would hope you would post in the same manner.

Dean I wish you the very best. Good luck.

Well said Haydo.

I hope you didn't mind the fact that the mod in question did what he did but, as much as we hate censorship, it was probably in the interests of the people concerned including yourself and your source that this was done. You'd be surprised at the number of "journos" who pick through supporter internet sites these days to get their "news".

One small point I'd like to make about Bailey is that, while he was a relative unknown, it's interesting that he was often used by Port as spokesperson to the media when some thorny issues arose. I think he'll be able to handle himself.

Haydo I had no idea what was happening during the selection process beyond what was in the papers and the speculation on the various internet sites.

However I've since had a chat to some people "in the know" and can assure you Sheedy was never "offered the job". Having said that I think he was a front runner early in the process and may well have got the gig had Bailey not done such a magnificent job during the interview process.

Whilst the appointment of Bailey has caused dissatisfaction amongst some Demonland posters I think there is a huge dose of enthusiasm for him right throughout the club from the Board to the footy department. I for one fully support his appointment. I was keen to get someone young into the job and think that Bailey comes from a fantastic environment at Port Adeleaide where he has been part of a team to rebuild that club after their premiership in in 2004.

The fact that our club put in such a professional selection process and the fact that Bailey beat such a good field should generate a lot of excitement for 2008.

Good on you, Haydo! I mustadmit you raised my hpes a fair bit over the past fortnight, but well done for putting it on the line!

Appointing Bailey is definitely the club taking a risk, Sheedy would have been the safe pick because of his reputation and record, so I applaud the club for that. On the other hand if Bailey's time with us is a complete failure then the club will be judged poorly for not going with Sheedy, so there is definitely alot of pressure on our new coach.

As I've stated elsewhere my preference was for Sheedy, but without being privy to everything that went on it's difficult for us to make accurate judgements. Bailey sure does seem like an uncompromising hard nut, which I think the team needs right now, but he also is very intelligent and has worked under a couple of different successful coaches, which is always a good thing.

Haydo, thanks for the inside info, sharing your knowledge is appreciated. On the job offer, you have to remember that you're dealing with a huge ego in Sheedy, and as haydo's info came from Sheedy himself it would have been his own interpretation. Perhaps things were discussed that Sheedy interpreted as a job offer.

This forum should be encouraging these types of threads on football issues, not ridiculing them....

Given Haydo's source was close to Sheedy and not the club, the confusion may well have stemmed from Sheeds own mind, highly likely if he'd had a couple of reds before dinner.

So would have appointing Sheedy. I dont think appointing Sheeds was a "safe" pick.

I am definitely happy with the conduct and the integrity of the process to appoint Bailey and good luck with him.

I am sure at the start of the process Sheedy's CV would have had him in front of the pack Well done Dean.

That's pretty much what I was thinking too graz. It's a game of Chinese whispers. I certainly don't think anyone here has lied or made anything up; more likely somebody along the lines got their wires crossed, and it could've been anyone in the line.

All in all i am quite satisfied with the process that the MFC has undertaken in sourcing a new coach, particularly when you look at the so-called process, or non-process, that Carlton chose to select its' coach.

I sat with a friend of mine tonight who is a Carlton supporter and he was quite miffed at his club's selction process and was jealous of our selection process.

If after such a gruelling, professional and transparent selection process, we managed to find a diamond in the rough like Dean Bailey, then i am quite content and confident that ample due diligence was afforded and the right man was chosen by the club to lead the Mighty Demons into the future.
