Petty - mark, can't kick

Is the direction of the club clear this year yet? Is King trying to contend? I’m not interested in players like Melksham, McDonald, Salem and Lever continuing to play to help drag us to a wildcard final. What’s that achieve? We clearly won’t win the whole thing this year, those players aren’t going to be in the side in 27’ and 28’, so it’s time to accept there may be a couple more losses and start playing their replacements NOW, to fast track the future. Kentfield, Jefferson and Taylor are the ones I’ve got my eyes on.

We are very short on KP defenders.

It has been raised previously that AJ may we worthy of a trial there, as he is up against it contending as a KP forward or as a 'second ruck'.

Thoughts?? I realise he will need to learn a new role, but is it worth a try?

Same could apply for JVR and or Jeffo

Gotta give Jeffo the same extended run as a key forward as JVR has enjoyed.

Gawn - only shining light

K Pickett - few magical moments

Lever - slow and uncertain

Langford - rarely looked interested

Turner - our best defender

Steele - prolific without dominating

McDonald - cumbersome and ineffective

Windsor - overrated and underperforming

Sharp - disappeared second half

Sparrow - limited and loose

Culley - Casey level footballer

Mihocek - old man performance

Melksham - occasion to forget

Petty - better second half

Fritsch - hair wasn’t gelled

Chandler - had little involvement

vanRooyen - must be dropped

Howes - generally effective game

L Pickett - far from ready

Lindsay - some mindless disposals

Langdon - career at crossroads

Tholstrup - reverted to schoolboy

Today’s team - looked painfully slow

JVR, THOSTRUP, LINDSAY, LATRELLE, T.MAC...

Worse than shocking!

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
