Not my raft, of course

I reckon one of these would be more appopriate than a raft, @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew .

Anyway, onto that final "gimme" clue. St Kilda's 'Flying Viking' almost qualified for my team, but just fell short.

That's all, folks. I've herd you've found this teaser particularly tricky but I've got nothing more to offer in the way of hints.

Gosh. Hard to believe that this teaser could baffle so many brilliant minds (and @Little Goffy as well).

I'll post the reveal this evening but, in the meantime, third spot is still up for grabs. Take your chance by the horns, Demonlanders!

@Demonstone: Bullseye? Herd? Beef? Tauru just short (by 's'?!)? BS?

An actual gimme clue might 'meat' us half way?

I think @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew has done enough to earn third spot, although I'm not sure he's actually answered the question. (Hope you haven't included your answer in a previous PM old son, as everybody knows by now I don't save old messages).

Time to take this old dog on it's final trip to the vet and hold its paw while the vet administers the green dream.

All the players in my team were born between 20th April and 20th May, making them all Taureans (just like 1/12th or less than 10% of Demonlanders).

The clues were many and varied and an explanation may be warranted.

** Robert Downey Jr, Jake Gyllenhaal and Mark Ruffalo co-starred in a move called 'Zodiac'.

** Ralph Wiggum hoped to attend Bovine University when he grew up.

** Harpo wasn't a one-hit wonder after all. His follow-up song 'Horoscope' had some success in Australia.

** The Blues Brothers doing 'Sweet Home Chicago' was directing you to the Chicago Bulls.

** The pictured car is a Ford Zodiac. (A Ford Taurus was deemed a tad too obvious.)

** Primal Fear are a band who had an EP and a single titled "Horrorscope".

** The pictured boat is a Zodiac inflatable vessel.

** Sprinkled throughout my posts were several signposts with words such as stars, steer, bullseye, BS, beef, Red Bulls, herd and horns.

** If all that wasn't enough, I then gave you 'The Flying Viking', Alix Tauru(s)!!

Sheesh. It's a battle just to give all these wonderful prizes away. I'll try to make the next one easier (not that this one was hard).

Next up: @Little Goffy with his cryptic stylings.

(1) No

(2) No*

(3) No

*At best I think I was close-ish to finding a commonality in (some of) the clues but I guess it was an apt find! I think you should hold the bronze over for #49. I'll accept a Participation ribbon, though (and then maybe get it bronzed?😉)

Re the clues I didn't get, btw, movies n music are not my forte, I needed someone to identify Ruffalo - though it prob wouldn't have helped (I did know RDJr, though - also didn't help), Ralph Wiggum - who knew?!, and I thought your new car was a Zephyr!

I'm guessing you're a Taurus, btw? 😄

I am as it happens, but the reason I went with Taurus was the wide range of possibilities it afforded with clues, links, hints, wordplay and the like.

There's better!

This Leo accepts the challenge!

...and, to make it a real challenge I'll deny myself the use of any Fitzroy/Brisbane players!

So you're not going to take it lion down?

I'll have a spell, though; after your tease I'm feeling a bit roar.

Just don’t go getting lippy

🤣Hardy ha ha!😂

The thing I hated (and still hate) the most about this particular quiz, is that I now have that god awful ‘Movie Star’ song playing on an endless loop in my head…oh the humanity!!

Bear with me. I've evacuated my work-from-home arrangements while half a dozen guys have an obviously [alleged substances] tinted rave / removal of scaffolding party on the rear side of my apartment block. Y'know, I've never seen scaffolding being removed by free-fall before, but I guess the 'woooo hooo' calls are an optimal safety guide.

Unfortunately that also means I'm away from my best procrastination space.

Fun side fact? The Pleiades cluster of stars within Taurus is known to many cultures as the seven sisters. In widespread Australian indigenous tradition there were originally eight sisters but one went away. In unrelated work, astronomical assessment of the movement of these stars has found that from about 15,000 years and further back there would indeed have been an 'eighth sister' visible to the naked eye, which would have faded from view as it moved behind other stars. The oral history tradition has held so stable that this change is still recorded.

Also, Pleiades is only 440 light years away. So if the spaceships launched from the pyramids were travelling at 1/10th light speed, they would be arriving by now.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
