I suspect Howes will one of quite a few who will be totally re-evaluated. Whilst some fd folk are still around from previous regime the new lot have new ideas and different requirements. They're no bunnies. Some roles will remain essentially the same... a new slant on the game plan/style will throw up a different criteria. It could well be some players who could quite fit the old way well might blossom in the new. Conversely some will become Casey stalwarts ....

I reckon you've nailed it 'bub even though this post seems (to me) to contradict your earlier post re Howes being on the endangered list.

In his nine years of coaching King would have experience with players of Blake's size and skillset. King would know very early on which position on the field would be the best 'fit' for Blake to progress as a footballer. And you may be right - that position may be in Casey's side!

BTW Blake and Disco similar in many respects. Blake's 17.7 last year a point of difference.

Howes , imho, is going to be among a handful.of players on the endangered list.

Not that he can't play... but newer models are already on the showroom floor.

The competition for spots will become heightened.

Forget everything you've seen over the past seasons ( immediate) about team selection, placement, strategy, style.

This is a bran nu day !!!

All bets are off

Go Dees

i have no idea how he snagged a two year contract mid last year, and especially given our recruiting, i really struggle to see any pathway into the afl for the rest of blakes time on the list, another laurie now

Howes has played 28 games

He's a good size, has taken a while to get up to pace of seniors but he has a chance to cement a spot.

I watch other clubs and see how some players transform themselves over a summer. Maybe they get specialised training maybe they decide to give it a real crack but they come back like they mean it.

I hope Howes does that. Has some tools and now has the pace of the game.

Go well young man.

I don't see him as a defender and hope he gets shifted to wing / half forward.

While his defending has improved, he does very little with the pill when he gets it. Typically, he will bomb it down the line and turn it over. We need this to be the last resort, not the first.

A change in position will give him the opportunity to get off the endangered list.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
