“Disco” took his time (four seasons) but the mid-season draftee has been a shining light of Melbourne's campaign, improving to become a versatile option at either end of the ground. He has great marking skills which allows him to play as a marking target up forward or an intercepting defender down back.

I’d appreciate if we could address him as “future captain disco turner” from now on.

Love him. I remember when we drafted him. I was amazed how we found a player with so much untapped upside. Apparently works his backside off and deserves the plaudits.

Still my pick for future captain.

The fact that he was given the #10 guernsey so soon after Gussy was forced to retire speaks volumes about how he’s regarded at the club. And he’s a worthy recipient of it.

Disco takes his footy seriously. At every single training session he trains like he’s trying to get back into the side. He’s been like this since the beginning. Disco is a coach’s dream and this I know for sure since our former coach told me.

He’s a lovely kid who is generally pretty serious and listening to him talk about how much he loves footy and his teammates is heartwarming to say the least.

The boy can take a mark, too!

In case anyone is wondering, Disco was given his nickname by his grandmother. Apparently he has “two left feet” can’t dance to save his life so she starting calling him Disco. I like the cut of nan’s jib 😅

Despite having such a good year, it felt like he flew under the radar a bit in regards to attention. Perhaps people were more focused on the drop off of the older players & the emergence of the draftees?

Not entirely a bad thing.

Still, established himself as a key performer in the team and was swung forward when we needed goals in a hurry - such is the regard for him in the coaches box.

Great athlete, kick and mark. High footy IQ too. Will be pushing for AA if he keeps improving at this rate.

Good player, coming along nicely.

Hope he paid attention to the way Brisbane's Captain started and finished his year. HARD.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
