I agree with the mass of what you said, but

1. the instability right now and for the last several years has been reinforced by Goodwin.

2. our premiership was coming - with the list we had it was almost inevitable, once we started with those breakthrough wins against Hawthorn in 2016 etc. Goodwin might have had very little to do with it when you consider the stature of Gawn Petracca and Oliver and May and Lever.

3. A new coach doesnt have to take long to succeed (see Mcrae and Chris Scott)- 24 months, sometimes less.

4. Much as we love Goody and want it to work, we need to use our reason over our emotions on this one. Goody just selected Billings again - the guy can't play football.

I don’t agree we have instability now ..2 games in ..wow

Premierships don’t just come ..you only have to look at present day history to see proof of that. GWS springs to mind with a list full of top end talent for years

Scott took over a Premiership team ..he can thank Bomber Thompson for his first premiership & I’m still shaking my head at the Pies premiership …

It’s not us loving Goody it’s the players who love Goody more importantly & as for selecting Billing’s..maybe just look at who’s out injured/suspended ..our list is a bit thin at the moment & surely you can’t object to Turner..Howes & Woey getting a spell ?

I've worked on the factory floor, in hospitality and professional services. And I've been part of Gaelic football teams and clubs.

They're not that different either TU

Maybe not. But tell me whether it's better that employees love their workplace and colleagues, just like both or despise either

Don Scott and Leigh Matthews did not speak to each other for years at Hawthorn

Didn’t stop them winning multiple Premierships together.

Just do your F$&@ job to the best of your ability….

I'm sure it helped🙄

I wish Damian Barrett's editors would take a tough love approach with his copy.

Spout and sprout are two entirely different words. As verbs, they don't mean anything like the same thing.

100% - You can spruik or spout an ideology, but sprouting is just weird.

Those are 2 diametrically opposed options. Obviously better not to despise your work mates. If you do i suggest you find a new job.

Now that i think of it, the best environment I worked in was in a factory. We had a competent crew and great banter going. The work itself was tedious and arduous but the day passed quickly because we were cracking jokes and taking the pizz out of each other. I had that as well to an extent playing football but there were always one or two DHs to be avoided on the team

So i would say being able to have a laugh and a joke definitely helps to bond with colleagues. Professional or not i think that would be very important in a footy team environment.

Exactly! While it's easy to mock buzzwords if a workplace is having more fun without interfering with them achieving their main goals it can but help. I hope this is the case with Melbourne and we leave them be to prove it.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
