Are the women part of the review?

With the end of season changes and the injury list these results aren't surprising.

Sherrif, West, Birch, Gay, Wilson traded out. Ivey and Johnson retired - not key contributors but depth.

Lily Johnson the only player traded in.

That's 4 best 21 players out.

Add Mackin x2, Zanker, Pearce, Purcell, Harris and Beasley out, that's another 7.

So we've lost about 10 of our starting team from last year, and alot of them would be in our best 10.

This week I understand we didn't have enough fit players to name all emergencies - we had to name unlisted players from the VFLW.

If Heath or McNamara miss, that list gets even tighter.

Just watched the post game interviews with Stinear and Lampard posted on the MFC website. Is there any danger at all the club could give the person asking the questions a microphone so we can hear the questions being asked???

Geez I know this is often an issue with press conferences where there are many journalists attending from various locations within the room but both these interviews were one on one and club generated content. A bit embarrassing really.

Had the misfortune of watching at the ground, and there is a LOT going wrong.

Yep, the injury list is really bad, but that was a total collapse. The ultra-risky, ultra-attacking game plan is completely wrong for this list - and I say that as a fan of Stinear. And the lack of numbers around the ball and then wherever the ball went was... almost junior football-esque.

I think the sadest part is even at our worst, this team has very rarely capitulated. It did today.

think the strangest part is the slow movement and then the kick into the corridor after being cornered on the wing.  It’s too slow.  Easy to defend.  Turnover. Goal !!! That happened 3-4 times.

Missing 10 players from last years finals team “21”… ouch !!!!! Trade out 4 injured 6.  Youngsters and depth players getting exposed.

free kicks 21-12   At one stage it was 19-7 !!! Clearly not getting the 50-50 calls !!!

contest&clearance / smashed today   - need an inside ballwinner (Purcell injured & West traded)

👏👏Have to feel for Chaplin and Goldrick. They stepped up In the absence of others. 👍🏻Watt battled hard in the ruck.  👍🏻Gillard is a star and was good today  (until Stinnear moved her to CHF in the last qtr and she was lost).

?? Paxy.  This is her last year. Uncharacteristically not able to be in the right spots
?? Banno. Got pushed aside too easily. She’s slight so needs to get away from the contest.  She was good just running running running.

Couple of comments on Paxy here.

Mick, in his presser, noted she'd been tried in a role (to fill gaps it seemed, in the forward line?) but the team had then not reciprocated in a way that would let her 'play to her strengths'.

(Apologies re pronouns. Not clear what Paxy prefers)

I was supportive of our list purge at year end, but only if we were able to bring in some players of genuine quality to replace them.

Maybe that will happen, but the evidence to date is that we failed to nail our early picks. In particular we didn't find the big bodied midfielder that we needed. I'm not writing off 18 and 19 year old kids, but many high draft picks are influencing games from the start. Ours are barely getting a touch.

Eliza West was fairly ordinary last year, but she is thriving at Hawthorn and she is the one that we needed to keep.

Clearly injuries are having an impact, but too many senior players are coasting along and not contributing. Unfortunately the game has gone past the likes of Paxman, Mithen and Lampard. Bannan and Zanker are half hearted with their efforts. Pearce is regularly injured.

We have massive holes in the list to fill, and questions need to be asked about the coach and his game plan.

Is Mick under contract beyond this season? He'd have to be contemplating that Anglesea to Casey is actually a stupid distance.

👍🏻I liked the sample from Pisano.  She was brought in as a small forward with footy smarts.  Yesterday she showed good skills, kicked 35-40 metres and actually ran consecutive plays to link up.  9 possessions. 253 metres gained.

🤯Bombers definitely put work into Kate Hore.  They negated her completely. Played the entire match.  13 possessions.  Mostly in the defensive half I think as she tried to stem the flow of the game.  Only 1 possession in 1st and 3rd qtr.   Need somehow to get more.

🤯Was disappointed with Tyla Hanks. Listed as one of our best.  20 possessions.  160 metres gained.  Her kicks were often 15 metres and barely constructive.  She needs to look up the ground more to advance the footy and move it quickly.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
