The secret's out thanks to Inside Football

I was alerted to this by a Collingwood supporter at work who approached me and asked why Melbourne wasn't playing Michael Newton. I asked him how he knew about Newton and he said he read this in the Inside Football VFL section:-

"Sandringham - Comment The best team in comp is stronger for the emergence of young Demon Michael Newton. He's exciting."

What do we do to hide him now?

Yep i just read the article today. i dont think ND has any where to hide newton anymore

no doubt he would be better playing seniors than week after week after playing for sandy (nothing wrong with that, but to get more experience needs to play seniors)

well it's lucky then that he's contracted till the end of 2008.

Really? That's great! I was under the impression he was only contracted until the end of THIS year.

He's definitely contracted till the end of 2008. Which is why the FD has got him on a program some people might not agree with, but is believed to be the best for his long term development.

That's good news, although I think he should play at least 1 or 2 senior games to give him a taste of what real footy is about.

The same ofotballing department that has failed to produce a matchwinning star in a decade

They will ruin Michael Newton

I just realised as I read my copy...

I've just had my first quote in Inside Footy....

On the Byron Pickett issue. Not my best work, but there it is for all to see...

Quite a proud moment for me...

No surprises here. Same old 'wounded' posters telling us of the doom installed for a player on our list.

It's up to Juice if he chooses Sandy over MFC. The MFC has a very solid plan in place to have him play in the Red&Blue. And I can assure you that Juice has had his input and understands what he needs to deliver to play in the Red&Blue.

But to all the doomsayers, keep it up, you're entertaining. Boring. But entertaining.

....and congrats DD on being quoted in Inside Footy.

davey and robbo might have some things to say about that.

so many people just expect us to win games..without key personel it makes it bloody difficult but there have been positives. I think Dunn has showed that he can play on a wing, petterd has been fantastic so far, sylvia has kicked 2 bags of 3, Miller has kicked a career high 7 goals and its only round 9 and Newton has been playing well in the VFL.

What's the plan Finks, what information do you have?

I'm not privy to the plan, and even if I was, I wouldn't be making that info available to the public.

It's like asking my boss to provide you with my Performance Reviews and Objective Setting Reviews.

All I know from members of the MFC who I trust and have a beer with, is that Juice is not a forgotten member of the team, and that the FD has a plan in train for his development. I am confident with what i've heard that he is progressing well and that in the next season and a half, we will see more and more of him. He is contracted, he likes the club, and he accepts that he has a level of mental and playing development to meet before he gets promoted.

Oh, I understand. What concerns me about the club is that sometimes they don't communicate their intentions to the players with what their plans are, my source of this is current players. By the sound of it your info is second hand at best.

By the way what you've just done is pretty funny. You gave the impression that you knew what was going on within the inner circle then when asked about it you said "I'm not privy to the plan and even if I was, I wouldn't be making that info available to the public." Really, what was the point of posting anything at all if you're not going say anything? Did you just want us to be impressed with your inside knowledge?

With all due respect, I think we now have the right to query the quality of any so-called solid plans the Club may have in place.

You've asked for details. I'm not privy to detailed plans. I don't need to tap myself on the back Jarka. My info is real and very clear to me. You want to remain negative, do what you like. I'm trying to help you sleep a little at night and remind you that Juice is still contracted, and that there is a development program underway. I'm not going to discuss in more depth with someone I've never met and in a forum where people can then manipulate and throw more mud at the club.

You want to point the figure and blame them for being negligent, go ahead. I'm not speaking from my ass when I say what I say, and you're the last person I would need to impress with my knowledge of the club's inner circle.

Davey and Robbo?

ROFL

yeah, cos they are in the Hird/Judd/Pavlich class arent they,,,

They arer very giod players, but not superstars. Not champions. MFC doesnt produce champions. Well not while Daniher and Fagan are in charge anyway

itd a joke if there is a specific plan for Newton, and not one for the other youngsters

he is already a better player than Garland, Pattard, Buckely, Frawley etc...

But they will all debut before him

What would make you think every young player at the club doesn't have a development plan?

What would make you think every young player at the club doesn't have a development plan?

I am sure they do

In fact I know they do

But it is obivou that Newtons is a lot stricter. How many games must he dominate before he is promoted? For christs sake, give the kid what he has clearly earnt

What the hell is going on at our joke of a club

I now cherish the memories of rocking up to the MCG to watch Gary Lyon in his prime, the only superstar we have had in my time as a Demon (not including my very fizzy memories od watching Fobbie Flower in his twilight years)

Maybe we should bring back Northey. Seems he knew how to get through to the players and get the best out of them.

I seem to remember his teams were tough as well.

Congratulations, i read that, that was good

Its a shame they could not spell Dappa right- 'Dapper'

From my dealings with our current players this level of communication has not existed from the coaching staff in the past, if what you're saying is true then hopefully it means they have improved in this area. But if you're not going to discuss it in depth why bring it up in the first place? What were you trying to achieve other than demonstrating your 'inside information'?

Your ass and what comes out of it is of no concern to me.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

  • PREGAME: Richmond

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
