I’m at Gosch’s Paddock this morning in the lead up to our first match of the 2024 AFL Season.

Thanks

I’m keen to hear thoughts on

1. Fullerton v Schache - who looks more likely to get the nod for swans game (assume it’s the Shack)

2. Who are are options for Picketts spot 😒?

Brown , McAdam , AMW ? Assume Spargo isn’t fit

Keen to hear about the progress of  Spargo, McAdam and Petty if they’re out there.

Most likely would be Jnr Dog or AMW to debut, as the other 2 are injured or not match fit.

Guaranteed we will go into the Swans game with the same lineup as the Blues game with Brown slotting in for Kozzy.

I’d like to see Fullarton get a nod over the early rounds but we’ve also got to give Schache a look in too.

Transition/Interception drill. Simulating opposition kicking from our half forward to half back and we intercept and transition through the middle to hit up one of our forwards. Lots of long handballs. Out numbered amount of opposition in white bibs to simulate pressure from oppo.

2 separate groups simulating this drill on either side of the ground.

Selwyn kicking the ball to McAdam on the lead out of the pocket. McAdam marks and kicks back to Selwyn and then has to run back to position by zig zagging out of the way from another trainer applying blocking pressure.

They really seem to be pushing him - assuming he must be close to playing

I have done this kind of drill previously at semi professional level a decade and a bit ago and it's absolutely not as easy as it sounds.

Depending how many repetitive efforts it can be a taxing drill and I'm glad he's getting a solid workout in.

Just not sure about having 3 debutants in a first round team - seems like a lot of inexperienced players at once

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
