IT IS A DISGRACEFUL STATISTIC

so, no i won’t forget it

Losing to The Filth and Carlton in consecutive weeks….

True.

After two years of getting a gazillion inside 50's yet scoring enough goals is an indictment.  One is entitled to expect one's highly-paid, highly-skilled experts to derive strategies and bed them in over that time frame.

I never said you should forget it or brush it under the carpet, but you’re going to the other extreme: you’re disproportionately dwelling on it, which is fine, it’s your prerogative. But need you point it out so frequently?????

Thankyou. I truly don’t think Demon Supporters en masse are angry enough about the last 2 years. We certainly should be

Where’s anger gonna get us?

Disproportionately dwelling on it?

It should be at the front of every post we all write this year

We have not got ourselves a "game changer" since Petracca and Oliver.

The game plan is highly susceptible in key games

Can we win it from 6 in 2024 ?

May & Lever are game-changers

So are Viney & Gawn.  Fritsch when fully fit.  And how about Kozzie?

Rivers, McVee, Sparrow, Petty, JVR, Salem, Langdon and Gus are all capable of stellar games in the future

We've finally got a good list of players and you can only find 2 players?

It's not 2012/13 DJ

Injuries to most of our forwards last season cost the club a flag

There is no other standout reason

For years, we've seen 1 excuse after another (umpires, our drafting, the board, the coaching etc etc)

Now, a legitimate reason for not winning the flag last year is put forward and people want to blame the coach?

Or just spit the dummy with their constant whining?

We didn't win, get over it and go again

We've got the list and we've got the coaching.

I've never seen the club in better shape and I go back as far as you do

👏

In all honesty we may be a couple of years older but we have recruited on face value better than we have since 2019.

If the recruits click and fire for us eg. inside the F50 we are better placed than the past 2 years.

Our core group are still in their peak years, in my estimation we have 2-3 years in our window left.

I just want us to find composure inside our 50 delivery wise and a killer's ruthlessness when the chances arrive to kill teams off.

But we haven’t… and mentioning it every five minutes isn’t going to change that.

Premierships are bloody hard to win, yet clearly you and many others saw it as a given that we’d win at least three on the trot. Taking things like this for granted is a surefire way to set yourself up for disappointment. And no, I’m not saying we should hope for anything less than another Flag, but surely we don’t need to eternally dwell on the years that’ve elapsed.

Not as a given.
We have the Talent, but not the same drive we had in ‘21

We should have won both years, but we were beaten on our home deck 4 times

Thanks Civ

I can understand people being disappointed with the 2 losses in the finals but reality bites and bites hard

You cannot win without talent and if the majority of your forward line is where that talent is missing, how do you win? (3 finals)

Do people think we could have won 3 finals with Upper Gully's front 6?

The replacement forward line was not a patch on our best forward line, it's as simple as that.  That's why we lost

So to get so close in both finals says a lot about our will to win and never say die attitude - we tried our guts out but came up short

I know. Boy, do I know. And if I didn’t know I’d know soon enough since you mention it at every. single. opportunity. For example, see above 🙄

Financially we're doing very well, the coaching is top-notch, a great playing list, 2 training venues that are way more than adequate (we won a flag out of Casey), a united board despite the bs that gets thrown about,  70,000 members, prime time TV slots left, right & centre

The media are constantly talking about us, instead of being virtually ignored like it was in the dark days

What's not to like?

This is exactly how I see it. It’s so simple that I struggle to understand how others don’t see it for what it really is. Maybe they don’t wanna see it that way 🤷‍♀️

If I’m in denial, I’ll happily stay in denial. I’d rather think about what might be possible this year, not what could’ve been last year and the year before, but WASN’T.

Still not convinced about the board/management 'Macca' but that's for another time & place.

The football side of things is what PJ used to say is the business we're in and we're doing that better than I've seen in my time. I was too young to remember the golden years or Smith & Barassi.

They are just miserable types ... born pessimists.  Only happy when they've got something to whinge about

In real life outside of the internet, it's easy to get rid of those types out of our lives

But here we are!  haha

I suppose it takes all types and promotes debate

In a general sense, this place is a battle between the optimists & pessimists.  And you won't see many realists

I’m waiting for the obligatory “out in straight sets” quote. No futile dwelling on the past is complete without it. Over to you, SWYL…

Two things that consistently occur on this forum.

1. The list is overrated - it's a good list, a really good list...but there are gaps in it as there are in all teams. It's a tough competition and we are in contention. The list is not that unassailable, you need things to go your way - luck.

2. The coach is underrated - he's a very good coach. When we won the flag it was the assistants that got us there, Yze, Williams etc...when we lose finals it's all Goodwin, he can't coach, to set in his ways, no plan B. Goodwin can coach, he's proven it.

The board is an easy target as many are going to believe the bs that gets thrown about.  Throw enough mud, it sticks

We're doing alright at board level and as for that bloke sprouting his stuff about fair elections, he's just a pest

If we had all positions up for grabs every off-season, we'd be down the gurgler in no time

Most sporting clubs are structured at board level the same way.  Stability & continuity is vital so there has to be an element of trust

Open slather and it's a mess.  I've seen that happen too many times at local level as I'm sure you have

Mind you, I had a completely different view in 2013

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
