Brodie Grundy to Melbourne: D

Was excellent when Max Gawn was injured, filling the role superbly. Otherwise, has created a selection headache, limited Gawn’s impact, become a point of external tension and now potentially another trade situation. Of course, one big day in late September could swing this right around.

Josh Schache to Melbourne: D

Melbourne gave up nothing to get him. Depth to have, replacing Sam Weideman on the list. Has only played the one full game in the seniors, however. Was worth a punt, but that will probably be it.

Lachie Hunter to Melbourne: A

The Demons only gave up a third-round pick for Lachie Hunter, who has played 21 games this season and been a key contributor on the wing. He has averaged 22.6 disposals per game and 3.8 inside 50s.

OUT OF THE DEMONS

Luke Jackson to Fremantle: B+

Luke Jackson looks a superstar of the future as a ruckman and has had an excellent season, particularly as the sole ruckman. Of course, Fremantle’s poor season could see them handing over picks 4 and 20 this year for him, as well as 13 last year. It’s a steep price to pay. Output versus cost.

Jayden Hunt to West Coast: B

Despite all the chaos at West Coast, Jayden Hunt has been a consistent contributor this season. He has played 22 games, averaging 19.1 disposals per game and proving himself as a leader amongst a young team.

Toby Bedford to GWS: B-

Has played 15 games for the Giants this season and worked his way into their best side, averaging 5.4 tackles per game and kicking 10 goals. The Giants gave up pick 44 to land him from the Dees.

Sam Weideman to Essendon: C

Managed to play 15 games for Essendon in 2023 – a career high for the key forward. Hey did, however, kick just two goals from his last nine games in the seniors.

I'm no fan of Grundy, but a D rating seems particularly harsh for a guy who stepped up pretty well in Gawn's absence earlier in the year. 

If Melbourne wins the flag on the back of a fit max firing in September, the Grundy trade is a big factor. To have Gawn this fresh this late in a year is a credit to the clubs list management 

The Ins ratings are spot on. Goody has finally admitted that Grundy hasn't worked.  To give him credit for Max' form is fanciful. If we didn't get Grundy, we would have got someone else.

Weid D.  He's been the underperforming player he was at Melbourne.

Grundy's rating is a joke. He cost us very little and saved our [censored] when Gawn was injured, while getting Gawn to peak Gawn at the pointy end of the season. 

And the irony is, we will get as much if not more in return for him than we paid to get him, should he choose to leave.

If we didn't have Grundy who else would we have got? Name names. It would have to be someone who could genuinely offer something at senior level like Grundy has when Max was injured and in tandem with Max.

Have you completely forgotten that Max was totally broken at the end of last year and that's a big reason why we lost two finals narrowly?  Grundy has definitely enabled Max to hit this part of the season fit and firing.

B- for mine, he covered Gawn really well, played some good games with Gawn. Unfortunately their best game together was a practice game
