Eating a pie at the footy

Except the ones that are too hot.

Being greedy and not waiting for it too cool down resulting in nibbling it and realising after its gone there was no enjoyment.

The price of beer is theft.

And the other Pies... Cwood fans.

Likes...the anticipation

The anticipation which is now accompanied with expectation.

The wins after both which we have experienced so many of recently.

Never been a better time to be a Dees supporter.

Got a new worst, 8am and realising the game is still 11 hours away 😩

Good.

1. Aussie rules infiltrating rugby states.

2. Essendon doing time for their many sins.

3. Whipping it good in '21.

Bad.

1. Colonial stadium.

2. Calling Aussie rules 'AFL'.

3. Teams 'VERSING' each-other.

A fourth one: The AFL sc*****g-over S.A and W.A native competitions.

A 4th one.

The Good:

Driving to the G, the anticipation walking through the park mingling with the fans from both sides

Sitting in our usual seats surrounded by familiar friendly Dee supporters and eating a pie.

Singing the song multiple times after a hard fought win or relaxing early in the game when we are on too early

The Bad:

Walking back to the car after a loss and hearing the opposition song being belted out.

Rude drunken supporters acting like they won the game!!

Not being able to watch the replay when we get home and reliving the what if’s fresh in your mind.

I saw in one of the papers today that Round 1 of the NRL had total attendances about 25,000 below the combined total of Richmond v Carlton and Collingwood v Geelong. I know NRL crowds are always lower, that they have smaller grounds and I believe have excellent TV numbers...but wouldn't you rather be at the MCG with 50,000+ other fans watching an AFL game than anywhere else?

Just one more...

Best: Jeremy Howe flying for marks

Worst: Jeremy Howe landing awkwardly.

I hope he has a speedy recovery and can get back on the playing field. The game is so much better for his marking skill. Undoubtedly, the best exponent of not just the high, spectacular mark, but any form of marking that I've ever seen. And I've been watching for over 50 years.

  • GAMEDAY: Western Bulldogs

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
