One of the biggest issues facing business and in particular footy clubs is Business Continuity. Fitzroy and South and the almost Dawks (Demons/Hawks) are lessons that should not be forgotton.

We have no chance of making the finals this year.

We have a number of players on our list who add depth because they have played a few games and made a valuable contribution in their day. But these players do not improve our list quality going forward.

It is negligent for businesses (including AFL footy clubs ) not to plan for the future including Continuity.

With this in mind i think the MFC should:

1. Extend ND's contract for another year.

2. Sort out who will not take us to a priemership in the next couple of years.

3. Do not play these players in the senior side for the rest of the year.

4. Do not rush any injured player back in the side. No point taking risks of chronic injuries or recurring problems.

5. Play the kids. Including Bate, Dunn, Pettard, Frawley (when available) etc

6. We will most likely get a top 5 to 7 and early 20's draft pick.

7. Ruthlessly prune our list at the end of the season

8. Draft a couple of quality youngsters.

9. Review the club culture (it seems pretty good led by responsible player leaders at the moment)

10. Enter next season with a refreshed list including a solid core of mature capable players and a number of rising young stars.

In this way we can turn the disaster of crippling injuries into our advantage rather than dwell on the negatives. Plan , plan and plan.

to change the culture we need a player to lead the club who WILL NOT stand for mediocre performances or mental lapses

Well I completely disagree with the "sack Daniher" crowd but at the same time I can't see the point in extending his contract at this point either.

IMO the board have this one right. Analyse the situation at the end of the year (or at least closer to it than we are now).

Play the kids is the only option after a 0-5 start. The broom will no doubt be swept as season end, so positives must be found and the kids are those positives.

As for danners, at best he would get a one year deal. To be fair to neale, we have not had anywhere near our best team on the paddock all season. It would be hard to coach as side that consists of many bit players.

I am concerned about the people around danners, such as the midfield, defensive and offesnsive coaching specialists. There seems to be little cohesion between the assistants plans, and it is reflecting on the field. our fitness coach is another problem, he is apparmtly wonderful, yet many players have been struck down by injury. A change perhaps?

PLAY THE KIDS, SEE HOW THEY FAIR!

Daniher should not get another year under any circumstances quite simply the guy has not got a clue.He has had ten years this is his list he has built and you want him to start again we will be sitting here ten years down the track talking the same crap with still no flag.Softness of players and mental toughness lacking , fire in belly missing comes from coaching panel. half the players look like they dont even want to be out there.If ND is so good why is it that guys like Armstrong, Jolly,Simmonds,Thompson can hardly get game time at Melb. go to other clubs and star . THINK ABOUT IT. <_<

completely agree with ya mate.

i am not against daniher, i think he has good results over his 10 years and has been servicable. he is quite a good coach....

with that said...it really annoys me when fellow supporters want him as coach next year. anyone who supports a coachs contract being extended past 10 years without a premiership, has simply accepted mediocrity.

Remove Thompson from that list.

Scott left, he was not discarded.

Jolly and Simmonds wanted more game time... Tough call, restrict White or play them more? (i'm not saying it was right or wrong.)

Arma was a favourite of mine and I was always disappointed that he was one of the first to be dropped if the club played badly. Good on him to fit into the WC team!

However I put it to you that a middle grade player looks a hell of a lot better in a top class side. (still think we should have kept him though)

I'm not with 'the play the kids' bandwagon because they are young and unknown. It might sound old school but i still believe u must earn ur spot to play seniors.

Petterd has done well/solid not outstanding in Sandy and def. deserved his spot last nite. Garland didn't. Kids who show nothing at Sandy will show nothing for MFC.

See page 75 of the Herald Sun today. Article on ND abnd Dees. SAID extend ND by a year or two and play the kids. Build towards a flag in 2008.

***This forward line plan was the mastermind of the father of the Modern Melbourne Football Club & the then Coach, the legendary Frank "Checker" Hughes, who was Norm's Mentor throughout most of his playing career.

"Checker" Hughes coached Melbourne from 1933-1941 inclusive,(interrupted by WW2) & then again, from 1946-1948 inclusive.
