Looked to be on his way out after playing his 200th game but reinvented himself in a forward role and put in some handy performances late in the season. Eligible for the VFL finals, he starred with four goals for Casey in the premiership decider.

"The veteran forward was restricted to 11 senior games in 2022, but played the Demons’ last eight games of the season, including two finals. Also kicked four goals in Casey’s VFL flag win. Found himself in the headlines mid-year when he had to have surgery on his hand after his off-field altercation with Steven May. Out of contract but expected to sign an extension for next season." - Herald Sun

What a year for Jake “ the Fist” Melksham hit a purple patch late in the season in the ones and then played an absolute ripper in the Granny for Casey. Although he will turn 32 next year he absolutely deserves the extra year at MFC. Good one Jake.!!

I thought he was finished so very pleasantly surprised with his form when he came into the team late in the season. Notched up his 200th game which is no mean achievement

Melksham did very well in a Forwardline that struggled after TMac went down.
Still an elite Kick at top level

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
