In the absence of any lingering interest in today's brainteaser, I shall now reveal the link is that the players in my team all share their surname with a keyboard player.

The purple highlighting of the words "key", "board" and "player" was the giveaway at the end.

So onto the real names of said keyboardists:

B:        Mathew Fisher     Ian Stewart     Randy Newman

H/B:   Tony Banks     Jools Holland     Billy Preston

C:        Mark Kelly     Alan Price     Leon Russell

H/F:    Isaac Hayes     Ron "Pigpen" McKernan     Jerry Lee Lewis

F:       Manfred Mann     Garth Hudson     Carole King

R:       Geddy Lee     Vince Clarke     Booker T. Jones

I/C:   Nicky Hopkins     Burton Cummings     Michael McDonald     Rick Wright

Third prize of a virtual bronze medal and bupkis is unawarded but WCW can claim them if she so desires.

I'll put up another teaser next Sunday if there is any interest.

Thank you ball kids, thank you lines people and goodnight.

Very clever.

BTW do you think of Geddy Lee as more of a Bass or Keys player? Or just good old both?

Geddy is probably better known to most people as a bass player, but also plays keyboards for Rush.

I don’t want any half-arzed prize! Even if it is bupkis. This will prove I won Bronze fair n square. Note the time…

???  Where did that post appear?  Not in this thread that I can see and it didn't appear in my PMs.

I didn’t start a new PM. I just continued with an old one. I just had a look and it appears that you’ve “left the conversation” which is why you wouldn’t have seen it.

That would explain it.  I delete old conversations/PMs after the teaser is done and dusted.

The tribunal has agreed to award you the Bronze Medal on protest.  You also take home your prize of bupkis.

Not that there's a good answer to that question but I reckon yours is. Great 3-piece band 😀

should of had a soundtrack to it 👌

Always curious as to how the medalists worked it out?

Did it strike you immediately when you saw the surnames? Or was it a bit of google trial and error?

A bit of both.

My first thought was actors as I recognised:  Paul Newman, Anthony Hopkins, Gene Kelly, Eddie Fisher etc.  Then I googled several others who I thought were actors, pm'd 'actors' to ds but was wrong, well at least not the answer he wanted.

Went and did other things for an hour or two and looked at the list again.  I recognised names of singers:  Eddie Fisher, Peggy Lee, Rod Stewart, Carol King, Paul Kelly etc.  Then I googled a few more who I thought were singers and they were, submitted 'singers' to ds and response was wrong but 'getting warm'.

Just as I was ready to raise the while flag, I thought of singer/guitarists which I knew was wrong but sent it to ds anyway.  Ds response was check the clues again without strings.

Bingo!

Doubt googling the names would work very well as the names are so common.

Bingo!

As I am a bit of a geography/cartography nerd... I saw a bunch of island names.

King Island

Stewart Island

Isle of Mann

Isle of Lewis

Outer Banks

No McKernan island though, but I did google a Corey!

Looks a very reasonable line of thinking.

For a little while I thought of rivers but that line of thinking didn't last long.  I didn't even pm it to ds.

No McKernan island though,

Timothy Reddan-A'Blew made the connection with the late Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, a founding member of The Grateful Dead, and went from there.

For anyone thinking their answers were embarrassing… I thought they were brands of outboard motors. 😆

Never mind the Isle of Man (from whence the Manx cat originated).  If I was going for islands, it would be compulsory to include Sean Wight.

That would have been a cheeky answer.   Some would say Evinrude.  :D

I had thought that when I saw Wright (Rick)...🤙

Shame there were no AFL/VFL players with the surnames Wakeman, Emerson, Argent or Rolie!

But how could you not include any of the Lord boys in deference/with reference to the late, great Jon Lord !!!!

Good Lord!  Would you believe that he was the injury sub?

I also couldn't find any player named Liberace or Dwight, but did consider naming Graeme or Gareth (Elton) John.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
