The constant bombing bewilders me. Bombing in can be useful especially when you're trying to get it in quick with mismatches but we rarely did anything but this. What I would have killed for even slow ball movement but chipping around the 50 patiently to see if they would drop their guard eventually. We didn't really wear down Collingwood's backline when they didn't have the ball at all. It either just went in and we kicked a lucky score or it came out very quick.ย

Just think when we're faced with this situation where it's hard to get separation from forwards, we should either be taking the game on and taking risks or we should protect the ball a bit more and be patient with it. Bombing it from slow build ups just won't cut it.ย

I think the high ball into F50 happens for two reasons

1. We've slowed the ball movement up the ground so much that it lets the opposition get so many numbers back to crowd the area making it impossible for our forwards to find space to lead

2. When we try to move the ball quickly we are regularly making bad decisions by hand putting the ball carrier under extreme pressure which results often in a high ball just hacked forward

These are the problems I think Goodwin's is referring to in his presser - our process/method what ever label you want to use if currently not working well and they need to fix itย

Some thoughts.

ANB can clearly run, add pressure, tackle etc.ย  But when we has/gets the ball, his disposal is not even up to vfl level.ย  Only 2 goals for the season so far for a small forward.ย  He's just not up to it.ย  We simply cannot win another flag carrying him in the side.ย

Turner showed quite a lot in half a game.ย  He's gonna be a good'un.

Brayshaw, if it wasn't for him, we'd have lost by 12+ goals

Spargo was ok early.ย  One of the best tacklers in the comp.

Oliver has gone back to hand balling to team mates under pressure.

Gawn is doing everything he can... but clearly not 100% fit.ย  His pack marking has disappeared.

Petracca is playing like he now believes he's a superstar.ย  Not accountable enough

Petty is as good a defender as anyone out there.ย  Can play forward too (he did as a junior).

Salem needs more games

Pig was good for 1st game back

BBB needs to really hit packs hard.ย  Probably never going to happen though. 1 dimensional.

Bowey might need a spell in the 2's.ย  Rivers back in for him.

Sparrow is trying hard, it's just not working right now for him.

Jackson has been twisting into tackles the last month... just kick the f_n ball.ย  He's nothing more than an adequate ruck.ย  Better as a forward and or / mid.

Kozzie is trying to be a millionaire every time he goes near the ball.ย  Go back to basics.

Langdon is clearly still not right.ย ย

Lever has never been a lock down defender.ย  Very out of sorts.

Fritsch is our best forward.ย  Poor delivery into him doesn't give him much to work with.

Jordan is doing just enough.ย  Needs to transition quicker.

Harmes has only ever been a back up on baller.ย  he's playing at his level - although to his credit he copped one late and kept trying.

Mitch Brown - the answer to a question nobody asked.

Viney keeps trying.ย  Disposal has always been poor although that right foot snap goal was very un-Viney like.

We need to choose a mid size / tall as the emergency player, picking a small just doesn't work.

Opposition teams have worked our mids out.ย  Maintained high pressure through the middle means we bomb it in and we don't have the forwards to pack mark.ย  They then rebound quickly.ย

The last 3 weeks the opposition's behind the ball structure has been very well set up.ย  Which also stops us moving forward quickly.

Not having May means our behind the ball structure isn't the same.ย  One of our most important players.

Tom McDonald.ย  I've been very critical of him in the past, however he adds so much to our team balance.ย  Will be sorely missed for most of the rest of the season.

Weid - get rid of him. Simply not up to it.

Tomlinson - probably should have been the emergency.ย  Can play back and can run for a bigger guy.

Rivers - needed a spell.ย  dominated in the 2's. comes back in.

Van Rooyen - Should get given a chance soon, might not have earned it yet - but looks to have the ability.

Joel Smith - Handy when he's on the park.ย  Unfortunately injured too often.

Hunt was unlucky to be dropped, however he's not in the best 22 when we are at full strength.

Dunstan is too slow and lacks polish.ย  I reckon we only took him as a cover for Jack Viney, who rarely plays a whole year.

Majak may just get a call up soon.ย ย

Viney - disposal was haphazardย

Brayshaw - great third quarter

Salem - still finding feet

Lever - played without convictionย

Bowey - schoolboy footballer again

Turner - limited before injury

Petty - was obviously hamperedย

Hibberd - not the answer

Oliver - prolific but harmless

Petracca - lost his edge

Langdon - had limited involvementย

Harmes - all or nothingย

B Brown - North was right

Jordon - disposal couldnโ€™t hurt

Neal- Bullen - disposal was amateurishย

Jackson - couldnโ€™t take controlย

Spargo - was never dangerous

Sparrow - tried but limitedย

Pickett - one noteworthy involvementย

Fritsch - delivery didnโ€™t help

M. Brown - opponents licked lips

I have only watched the first half. ANB was excellent and Bowey was his usual beautiful kicking to a team mate. They must have gone bad in the second half.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
