DEES TEAM v CATS

Featured Replies

I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of spine with the supporters...

Reckon they are all crowing over at the Geelong supporters website. What say we just support the team and scream our heads off. Sure on paper it looks hopeless, but how many times have we seen the understrength team get up? It's not the final straw for me if they don't play Sylvia, or they do play Yze or Danners has a brain fade, what is getting close to a final straw for me is the continious stream of negativity.

Go Dees!

Gee lighten up, get a sense of humour!

We will all be there on Sunday supporting the team because we are passionate supporters.

But surely we can poke a little fun at the team on paper.

No game is impossible to win.

Exactly.

'Melbourne Supporting for Dummies', Chapter 1- Get a sense of humour <_<

Demons are in for a tough time but i'm now looking forward to the next 6 weeks for another reason.. We have a very tough run and could easily be 8-0 if we don't play some good Footy soon but i hope we try some new stuff...

Play Paul Johnson as a permanent forward and give Brad miller a run at full-forward. Get rid of muppets like Godfrey, Brown and Wheatley, give the Show Biz his chance which he deserves. Give our new kids a run like Garland and Pettard as there is no point playing morons like Godfrey when we can get some early games into these young ones...Every other team is doing it even the strong ones like Sydney and West Coast as it seems to have great benefits....

This is a time where Neale Daniher can show us some creativity and problem solving because we already know the space cadet cant coach to save himself.

Colin Sylvia is still carrying some soreness and like Pickett due back Round 4.

What do you guys think?

Quick question- Paul Johnson is a better player than the big Russian Jamar so why this year are we still persisting with Jamar?

FF Johnson Miller Davey

HF Yze Bate Green

C Mcdonald Moloney Bruce

HB Bizzell Holland Ward

FB Bell Carroll Whelan

R White Johnstone Jones

INT Pettard C johnson Jamar Brown

You picked the best lineup from the 25 man squad

if that team wins i will do cartwheels

why the hell wasnt any of Garland, Newton or Sylvia picked is what I wanna know

It maybe like this

Backs:................ M.Whelan,,, N.Carroll,,,,,,, B.Holland

Half backs: ........ C.Bizzell,,,,,, R.Ferguson,, D.Bell

Centreline:......... B.Moloney,,,C.Bruce,,,,,,,,, D.Ward

Half forwards: ....B.Green,,,,,, B.Miller,,,,,,,,,, A.Davey

Forwards:...........M.Bate,,,,,,,, P.Johnson,,,,, A.Yze

Followers: J.White, N.Jones, T.Johnstone

I/C From: M.Jamar, J.McDonald, S.Godfrey, N.Brown, ,,,,, R.Petterd,

OUTS: P.Wheatley, C.Johnson,

INJ: Neitz, Robbo,

Seniors

Sandringham

Goal Kickers: N. Sautner 7, C. Sylvia 3, S. Valenti, C. Garland, A. Yze 2, P. Johnson, M. Newton, P. Summers, B. Pickett, M. Ferguson, R. Crowe, B. Holland.

Best Players: P. Summers, R. Ferguson, C. Sylvia, S. Valenti, N. Sautner, A. Yze

I don't want to see PJ playing just in the goal square, I want him to lead out & play between 40Mtrs to 70Mtrs dragging Scarlett out with him. PJ is quite good when the ball has hit the ground, where he can gather, run & kick or feed off to a team mate running past. The forward space around the goal square is where we want Yze & Davey to use their tricks with Miller close by assisting with some heavy work & defending hard, locking the ball in.

If we can put maximum pressure on the cats defence by playing man on man when their trying to exit their full backline with PJ & our working ruckman on opposite sides of CHB, we could cause them some trouble. But we must keep our full forward line OPEN deep.

why the hell wasnt any of Garland, Newton or Sylvia picked is what I wanna know

Sylvia is injured..

The other 2 combined have kicked about 8 goals for Sandringham and are not good enough yet.

Anyone want to guess the final 22 before its released tonight.

In - Holland, Bizzell, Yze, P Johnson

Out - Robbo (inj), Neitz (inj), Rivers (inj), C Johnson

EMERG - C Johnson, Petterd, Ferguson

INS:

Holland's confirmed in the 22 to heighten our defence.

Bizzell should come in to add some versaltility forward or back

Yze should come in to add some scoring power (if he's still capable at this level)

I had trouble tossing up between P Johnson (a foward option) or Ferguson to add an option in defence. Went with PJ as every man and his dog around here wants him in the side.

OUTS:

Robbo, Neitz and Rivers are confirmed out.

Toss up between CJ and Brown. Went with CJ as he hasn't shown he's capable at AFL level as yet (apart from NAB Cup/regional games) and only averaging 10 possessions. At least with Brown, you can be guranteed 20-25 possessions but hope to god he uses the pill properly.

Would love to see Pettard debut this Sunday. Saw the kid V Geelong at Skilled (Mar 17th) and showed he'll be a class act in the future (albeit only had 30% game time). Me thinks he's not ready though.

Yze for Robbo

P Johnson for Neitz

Holland for Rivers ( to wrestle with the furry cat)

Bizzell for Wheatley - (to setup the plays.)

either Brown or Pettard for C Johnson. (to provide some run & carry)

PJ has to come in to try & stretch their defensive talls as Tom Harley is out injured, hopefully he'll take Scarlett away from goal.

If CJ gets dropped, and I wasn't such a sucker for this football club, I'd boycott the game!

With an already depleted forward line, this could be his chance to shine. He got limited game time last week, most of which was spent down back (not his natural position IMO). What the hell are we doing if we drop an unproven 22 year old for an over the hill 30 year old?!

Yeh i think Cj just needs to be played as either a full time winger of full time forward... i think he would do great one out he just needs to be given more than 2 weeks in the team let the guy settle.

dont worry come 5pm today i am sure he would of been dropped for some "dead wood"... frustrating but if i see CJ and Pettard out i will be very very angry...

If CJ gets dropped I'll be rampant because I think he has awesome potential and needs to keep getting gametime in the 1sts... That and he's in my dreamteam!

Fair call. Don't have any problems giving him a couple of more games...but you have to draw the line somewhere.

Is it just me, or does CJ always play in losing sides. I think the St.Kilda, Collingwood, Essendon and Brisbane games of last year where the only wins he's played in.

I actually disagree. I think CJ needs a week at Sandy. He needs to get some game time and plenty of touches.

With Brown, Godfrey, Ward and Wheatley in the seniors he will get his place straight back and will be better for his run in the magoos.

So do Davey, Bartram and TJ going on form, but this is not the time to be dropping class players with above-average disposal. Not when we're already missing McLean, Rivers, Bartram, Neita, Robbo, Pickett, Sylvia and Dunn.

Does that mean Chris Johnson is a class player Jaded?

I wouldn't think so. Hopefully one day. Don't forget some of these blokes are still developing.

Sylvia is injured..

Correct Brocky.

Well now, that's never stopped some of the other players who are still getting games has it? Some of them don't even have futures. I doubt there's 30 listed AFL players that COULDN'T get a game for the 16th placed dees at the moment, and if Newton is one of them, I'm stunned. Kicked 8 goals for Sandy? Not true, and besides, that doesn't accurately describe why the players are perceived as "not good enough" yet. At least not Newton.

But again, it's just a difference of opinion. Me and a few others vs Rhino, MFC footy department and some others. What difference does it make? Come Sunday night we may find out something new, or we may find out what we all have been hypothesising for months...

Bring it on.

Chris Johnson has been awful the last 2 weeks, lucky to be in the team

Kicked 8 goals for Sandy? Not true

Don’t forget the distinction between sandy res and seniors. I would be surprised if Newts has kicked many more then 8 senior goals.

A little part of me did want to see Newton picked because i have seen a lot of him and think he is a real talent, the man to eventually take over from Neita. However now is not the right time. As someone else said previously Newton needs to make his debut with Neita or at least Robbo there beside him.

As for this week our best chance of winning comes from a smallish forward line with the presence of the resting ruckman. If we can get a couple of bags of 3 from say two of the likes of green, yze, bruce, tj, davey or bate and 3 or 4 between the ruckmen we are on the way to a decent score.

I think our forward line will adept better then most believe. For me it is the Rivers-less backline that has me most worried. Holland will do a job and hopefully carroll and whelan can return to form but the cats forward line is looking tremendously multi-dimensional. I could see up to six players with realistic chances of snatching a bag of 5 this weekend.

If delivery into the forward line is going to be critical we are absolutely screwed!

Oh Jeeeez we are in a shed load of trouble.

Seeming as we are ranked 15th for inside 50's, now we need not only quantity but quality...

Good luck boys.

Fergy for FF (no worrys about decision making then...)

while im thinking about it... we have lost some calss but the replacements will be fearless and try all day... almost enough to make me think we have a 30% chance of winning.

MELBOURNEfc has made four changes to its team to face Geelong at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.

Into the team come Ryan Ferguson and Paul Johnson for their first games of 2007 along with reliable defender Ben Holland and veteran Adem Yze.

Missing from the team will be Chris Johnson and Jared Rivers, who pulled up sore with a hamstring complaint. They will be joined on the sidelines by Melbourne’s lengthy list of casualties, David Neitz (knee – 3-4 weeks), Russell Robertson (knee – 6 weeks), McLean (foot – 5 weeks) and Clint Bartram (knee – TBA).

ARGH! I can't believe they dropped CJ. Talk about scapegoat!

So that means...

Out: Neita, Robbo, Rivers, CJ

In: PJ, Ferguson, Holland, Yze

Slow, immobile forward line here we come!

I'm confused, the way that worded that saying that they will join the causality list, makes it sound like hes injured not omitted.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
