I wonder what the mindset is with several players taking sideways kicks for shots on goal even when in front of goal.

I find it strange mainly because they have been working on their kicking with Choco a lot this year.

Earlier in the year, one of the broadcasters pointed out that set shot accuracy from sideways kicks is higher than for straightfoward drop punts. That may be why.

However, that data needs to be looked at more closely. I suspect that the accuracy varies greatly with distance from goal. Tom McDonald was too far out for a sideways kick where I suspect the odds favour a straight run in. (Although I accept it worked for ANB).

The set shot Tmac did it on was stupid. He is a great set shot and it was fairly straightforward for him.

From a boundary shot. Go for it.

Yep 35m out on a 45degree angle on the right side of the ground, drop punt for sure, especially Tom he has a great set shot, terrible kick in General play but great set shot.

When McDonald took that shot the wind was blowing right across the ground (and immediately into my face), I wonder if that played into it after a couple of set shot misses in recent weeks.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
