2006 – (5) Fremantle, Sydney, Collingwood, St Kilda, Melbourne

2005 – (3) Adelaide, St Kilda, Port Adelaide

2004 – (4) Geelong, Melbourne, Sydney, Essendon

2003 – (3) Port Adelaide, Fremantle, Essendon

2002 – (2) Port Adelaide, Collingwood

2001 – (2) Brisbane Lions, Adelaide

2000 – (4) Melbourne, Kangaroos, Brisbane Lions, Hawthorn

1999 – (3) Kangaroos, Carlton, Sydney

1998 – (4) Melbourne, Adelaide, West Coast, Essendon

And you can now add 2007 to that list

Maybe everbody can relax a little but now?

Good stat YM. Thanks for the reminder.

But it still doesn't make the tripe that was served up last week any easier to swallow.

Agreed. If melb wanna become a good team like Sydney, WCE or freo, we cant afford less than perfect games. Sure teams have days they play bad but not a game style which was nothing short of cats [censored]

And 3 of them went on to win the premiership.

So actually, teams that play finals more often than not win in Round 1, with last year being the exception.

Yep, great stat Y_M.

But seriously, if I was a Melbourne supporter, I wouldn't be panicking yet, and not because of the above stats.

Weren't Melbourne 0-3 after 3 rounds last year, yet went on to play in a semi final?

97 (6) - St.Kilda, Geelong, Western Bulldogs, North Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane

96 (1) - Sydney

95 (0) - all teams that won in Round 1 made the 8

94 (2) - West Coast, Geelong

Incidently, a Grand Finalist in almost every year has lost in Round 1 - 94 both GFs lost, 96 Sydney, 97 St.K, 98 Adelaide, 99 Both Carlton and north, 00 Melbourne, 01 Brisbane, 02 Collingwood, 06 Sydney.

Good stat YM

True, but of those three games only one was that we should have won and none of them were at the G. Round 1 was against the blues and for some reason they always win the first round, round 2 saw us come up against the Bulldogs at their peak of the year, and the last one was against Adelaide at Carrara and we were robbed of at least a draw.

I'm certainly not panicking, but it makes our job harder later in the year.

As long as we dont drop 3 straight like last year, i will be happy enough.

I'm still worried. You could just as well consider and compare round 11 in isolation. It isn't the fact that they lost but rather how they lost . The same "dumb footy" both sides of the main break. What happened at half time? Anything? I saw a woman grab her two daughters at the 11 minute mark of the third and storm out. A good call as it turned out.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

It was bad enough that the Melbourne Football Club created yet another humiliating scenario inside its wretched season at Marvel Stadium last Sunday, but the final insult is that it has been commanded to return to the scene of the crime to inflict further punishment on its fans this week. Incidentally, if this match preview, of a game that promises to be one of the most unattractive fixtures in the history of the game, happens to cut out of your computer screen three quarters of the way through, it’s no coincidence. I’ll be mirroring the Demons’ lacklustre effort against St Kilda from last Sunday when they conceded the largest last quarter turnaround for victory in the history of the game.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.
