Why Oliver is More Dangerous Than You Think

Featured Replies

Whats funny is that the guy Essendon took at pick 5 behind Oliver, Darcy Parish, is finally having a breakout season but  is still a about three levels below Clarry who is now a footballing god.

Moving up to pick 4 to get Oliver was a stroke of genius.

4th best ever individual game since 2010 under the Player Ratings model.

Watching him on the TV was amazing. The supporters that attended the game must have been picking up their jaws with that display.

Jake Melksham is 6th on that list lol

The Player Rating model is a bit of a joke.  Most of the best rated individual games in the list are forwards kicking bags when their side won by over 100 points. Oliver was herculean and would be sitting alone at the top if the system worked.

Sorry Mr Landsberger but I have always know Clayton is dangerous.  Would love to see him hit the scoreboard though.

Surely, we could slip Clarrie into the forward line for just one quarter, per game? The deeper, the better. He is getting bashed and held, every match. Takes it like a champion. If they do this to him under the umpires' eyes without umpire adjudications, imagine the frees he'd get before goal. Gawn and Clarrie, the two most 'thugged' footballers in the entire AFL playing lists.

It is time for the team to step up to his standard.

We have had a successful year to date. Largely, this success is due to Clarrie and his influence on Tracca and Jackson, forming a trio par excellence. Sadly, I feel that the rest of the team has left him to carry the weight of the season. The rest of the team has - to a considerable and recurring extent - let him down. This is a team - it has shown this clearly, earlier in the season. It is about time that 'team' support and the macro-endeavour that is required are blended with Clarrie's game, style and intent.

This is nonsense. Clarry is my favourite MFC player of all time, but you didn't watch Mitchell closely. He was constantly on the bottom of packs and had brilliant hands. He was every bit the extractor. He was not an outside mid.

Clarrie's game against the crows was something that Mitchell could only dream about.

There is no comparison to Clarrie's dynamic running, ball extraction from packs and inventive, literally "over the top" handballs.

Have watched highlights only but the only team mate who has figured out Clarrie is Langdon who seems to receive an inordinate number of handballs because he runs with Clarrie and positions himself to assist on the outside. Clever.

The rest of the team should look and learn and so should the coaches.

I think Clarry can be better in the long run than Mitchell because he's got that elite burst, but Mitchell is a legend of the game.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
