Angus - he was captain for the day, you can tell he is a tough, classy AFL level on baller

Daw - did ok, big frame, reasonable fitness, didn't pluck any massive grabs, ok in the ruck

How much game time did Angus play? Will he be fit enough to play an AFL game given his limited preseason?

Would of played around 60 minutes

I reckon he is not 100% for yet but given his standing and the way the team needed him yesterday he will probably push to be selected

If Petty and Kozzy get through full games next weekend then they're absolute locks for round 1 imo.

I don't think they will play Petty and keep the backline as settled as possible. Sounds like Goodwin loves Petty so I'm sure hes' not far off though. Kozzie if fit will play no doubt.

Still sounds like he is 2 games away. It is already clear from the preseason games that the AFL is not for players who aren't fully fit because of the interchange cap and normal length quarters.

Biffo. I think we need to play Petty instead of Tomlinson plus Salem in for Bowey who will benefit from games at Casey. Kozzie in for Spargo plus the Mids that didn't play and we start to get a half decent side. Hibbo will need a couple more weeks.

I reiterate past comments that I'm worried with our depth. Just hope most of the newbies get some consistent runs at Casey and start to improve.

The Dogs were on top all day but we did not stop trying it was a game played in our defensive half

Declase  - played well given the Dogs were dominant, took at least 5 marks, has a long kick on him, only his first game so needs time to build confidence

Kozzie - gun, excellent fitness and tremendous work ethic, tough, fast and athletically gifted, he can definitely play midfield, side steps, twists, just a ripper

Petty - great defensive game considering under the pump all day, plenty of intercept marks, will slot straight in if May and Lever need help, would prefer him play instead of Tomlinson

Laurie - worked hard, got caught holding the ball trying to do a side step but didn't let it demoralised him, would like to see him play wing in the same game as Baker to get a read on who has more impact

Rosman - didn't have much impact but that could be because the ball was hardly ever kicked to him

ROSMAN - Didn't have much impact , but that could be because the ball was hardly ever kicked to him

I believe he played deep forward. ( Given reports from watchers that were there)  This guy is a natural winger!! IMO, I've seen him at training and he impresses with a few tricks. YET in a game dominated by Footscray where the ball was not forward all that much , they play him there??! I say MADNESS, Can someone who was there confirm this??

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.
