All things good you are starting to see a different Petracca. You will see a smoother action and a modified follow through from him.

He means business looking at his preseason so far. Its called climbing the ladder so to speak. Here 's hoping.

He is coming out of contract. Of course he is going to be fitter and play better. We have only been waiting years for it.

Really doubt Petracca will perform much higher than he has in the past. Such a wasted talent

I’m backing Petracca to have his best year with us, a lot of media pundits like to mention the fact that he’s in his final year of his contract so this is the time to shine. But how about the simple fact that he is getting into his peak years and as an age group our club is getting into their peak years.

Now is the best time for him to shine because it has the potential to bring others up along with him.

Or simply growing up,  and pulling the finger/thumb out of, wherever it's been resting.

You mean theyr're still dropping,  o_d.?

Here's hoping it impacts his aggression and play.

Agreed.  What we're just seeing is the darren burgess effect. Petracca should have looked this way seasons ago.

I thought it was going to be that he now wishes to be known as Christine Petracca and will play for the AFLW team today.

I guess that's one way to deal with his ball drop problem. Just not the way I expected.

I seem to be saying this a lot lately, WTF.

I'm starting to think someone has been a bit free with the crack pipe and my favorite martian may have multiple personalities (and maybe a persona we have seen in the past).

I'll take other's word for Petracca's body shape having changed, but before we laud Burgess and demonise Misson, maybe the bulk (unintended pun) of the scrutiny might be better placed with Petracca himself.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
