What has happened to Salem?

Featured Replies

One of a bunch playing hurt. confidence shot and trying to make their way in a totally non existent system, within a team desperately racing to the finish line so they can re-set. he'll be there round 1 2020 and is a super important player to us.

I'd be starting Salem in the middle next year, alongside Oliver and Brayshaw.

I'd have Brayshaw switching in and out of the middle and half forward with Harmes. Then Viney rotating with Salem across half forward and the midfield.

His ball use from the midfield and across half forward, connecting midfield with forward half is something we desperately need.

A fitter Melksham will help this delivery inside too. Fritsch should only play forward too. I'd love someone like Ben King to partner McDonald and compete with Weideman for the second KP forward spot.

Salem needs to move up the ground though.

Stated he was overrated a couple weeks ago and got howled down.
Dinky 15m passes don't cut it, let alone the ones that get turned over (most times in the corridor).

Agreed, neat nice player, dinky 30 metre kicks, does not show fear but has no physical presence, I reckon the footy community would have him at pick 20-30 in a trade . Another poor draft selection.

I'd say it's confidence for the most part, he's not the only one. Hibberd is usually a very good kick has been way off, I would imagine that most people here had him clear in front on the B&F in the first half of the year. He's dropped off and his kicking has been way off the mark. But like many other he's performing well below his best and I'd be pretty confident in saying he's also struggling with an injury or two.

It's not confidence ..... Too slow.
Papley was just blowing him to the weeds in that clip.
And he hasn't been the 1st to burn him off.
Moving Salem into the midfield won't make him any quicker either.
And I'd suggest he's dropped off due to the opposition realising how much we try to use him and so paying him more attention.

It's pretty hard to be quick with a sore knee. I suspect Papley would outrun him, even if Salem were fit, but let's recognise that he played injured on Friday night and that made him "look worse".  He's still the first player I want kicking the ball out of the backline. (Jordan Lewis is his equal for kicking, but he's now an overall liabilty playing in defence).

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
