I know - and we have 3 wins! Imagine how unstoppable we will be, when it is rectified :)

Considering our conversion of inside 50s to scores has been trash for the last 2yrs you'd think they would addressed the problem over the pre-season.
Instead it's got worse.
Just shows how poor the coaching dept is.

While there is some value in this statistic, it's the equivalent of the truth without the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

If my team retains the ball 25.6% of the time in its forward 50 while the best team keeps it in 36.6% but my team gets the ball into the forward 50 twice as often as the team that retains it 36.6% of the time, which team is doing better?

Of course, if my team gets it in there twice as often and retains it more than anyone else but doesn't score, etc. I could go on.

In other words, the value of this statistic only goes so far. Sometimes stats are useful. And sometimes their value is grossly overstated.

90 percent of statisticians believe in their craft, but another 60 percent don’t. ?

I dont think you can hang all of this on Clarry, he gets the ball and kicks into the forward line usually to a contest which our forwards lose more than other teams. How many marks do we take inside forward 50. Backman have a far easier job against melbourne forwards this years as opposed to last year.  We have similar numbers of players inside 50 to our opponents but our opponents win position 75% of the time, that tells you that its more than Clarry its the forwards not doing their job.

Maybe someone could find comparative club by club stats for contested marks inside 50 as well as total marks inside 50.

Actually,  'Fe',  it shows how good it is...   That we got into the finals,  with so little talent on the run-with-skills dept',  both smalls and medium runners.

Only Melk is a full-time player,  in this size,  and Hannan when he can get onto the park.

Our inside ball winners have come back to the rest,  a little,  this year,  IMO.

Maxy not as good as 2018.  atmo.

So are we under-performing,  this year...  Or did we over-perform,  last season ?   Until found out ?

Probably a bit of both actually.

Yep,  it's a bit in between,  imo.

But we did really well with our lack of speed.    We just got the press right,  and the AFL in their wisdom,  did what they always seem to do.   F()c#@d  us.

The AFL and Mcc,  seem to treat us like slaves,  to their systems.

Anyway we are still building, and pace and run,  I am sure, will be front and centre for us now.

The mind boggles.

Well considering the last 10-12 years as a yardstick.
Last year seems to be an abberation doesn't it.

To me,  the latter half of 2018,  was similar to our latter half of 1987.    That was our beginning run, at finals campaigns.

This year has so far been cruel'd,  by lacking fitness,  injuries,  and recovery from injury/surgeries.  >>  fitness.

In a way the back half of 2018 season was a shopfront display of our potential.

We've got plenty to look forward to...  but we still need to continue building and refining our list, desperately.

aberration...  I think the way we've played early this year is the aberration.  According to our direction.

We shall see.
I wasn't happy in '88 or the following years.
Or 2000 and its following years..
And I doubt I'll be all that pleased over the next few years.
Not enough class to get the job done and our poor efficiency inside 50  is a sign of this.

I recall last year there was a lot of talk that MFC hadn’t beaten anyone in the top 8 for most of the season. Or even anyone above us on the ladder.

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.
