The Last Time They Met - Round 9

The 2018 Preliminary Final with its back to back goalless opening quarters was more or less a prelude to how Melbourne has been going this year.

11 changes from that side to what will likely be named this weekend.

That’s a huge change in the span of 9 games for a team that should be successful and stable. No wonder we’re performing poorly this year with that sort of change and instability.

True although only Jetta, Hannan and AVB would probably walk into last week's side. Maybe Weideman. MAAAAAAYBE Tyson and JKH.

do we have to have this thread??

DELETE DELETE!

6 players injured from that side that got pantsed last year.  oh dear

although we won 4 games earlier over there.  funny old game football

If we must have this thread (and I guess we have to), we should agree to two rules:

  1. This weekend's game is not to be called "the Preliminary Final replay". Someone in the media will call it that. I'll accept "re-match", but only just, given the changes to playing personnel. But it's definitely not a "replay".
  2. A win will not be "revenge" for the result from the last time these two teams met. The stakes are very different.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
