If AVB is our best player in a prelim, I know that we have lost the game without needing to look at the scoreboard.

We have many better players than him that we would need playing well to not only win, but make a Grand Final.

His true worth to the team is to play very well, and be around the 6th-9th best player on the ground.

Go back to round 22 against the eagled and watch the 1st half. It was Vanders who set the tone for the day with his manic agressive pressure and tackling.

Vanders is best 22 and a crucial part of our structure.

Agree.

I said last year that he reminds me a bit of dipper, in terms of style, role, size, attack on the ball (and man) and importance to the team.

Probably won't win a brownlow though.

I think his true worth, particularly come finals, is as an enforcer.

Not in a dirty sense, but in the 'i can hear footsteps and am about to get pounded 'and 'ouch, i just got pounded, that really hurt, will slow me down today' sense

I agree dazz, and I'm pretty sure our MC see him in a similar light.  If they didn't, he would now be wearing Sydney colours.

You guys must be on pills. I've been promoting this bloke for the past two years, but his disposal in our second to last match was atrocious - by far the worst on the field. I'm afraid that can't ever be fixed. If we're to move forward, Vanders doesn't have a place in the team without significant improvement - despite his physical impact, which the majority are now bringing to the mix. Werridee, others inclined, show your best 22 and who Arron will keep out of the team in the longer course of the season if we are to approach and make our mark on the finals?  Setting the tone is one thing, for a young immature team, but maintaining elite standards for a flag-challenger is another thing altogether.

I think that you can also add Joel Smith into that mix!

Vanders and Pike's style, good association. Add Preusse to the mix with a dash of Tracca and Viney and the year is sown up.

I love what he brings to the table, and I reckon he and ANB can add a fair bit to support McDonald up forward in the absence of Hogan.

As the games roll by, this is meritorious thought. Some support options now exist across the whole team.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
