'Landers I woke up Monday morning after having traveled down the highway on Saturday, and in some strange attempt to come to terms with the grieving I was still experiencing, I booked to go to Adelaide this Saturday in the hope of seeing us resurrect our season. I have never been to Adelaide Oval (been to Footy Park) and wanted some advice. Most importantly I am wondering if there is a pub that away supporters tend to frequesnt before matches? I have heard people say don't wear a scarf around on your way if you don't want to be abused in the street. Is the joint still that hostile? We are in the GA section on the hill and plan to stand behind the Cheersquad.

Anyway, my family all think I am mad for going over last minute. I am meeting some mates over there, but any general advice from those who have been over or who may be heading over would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Chell

I went to the Port game a few weeks ago. Had a few pre game drinks at the rooftop 2KW bar on King William street. It was full of red and blue scarves and only a couple of power fans. It’s a bit swanky and pricey but watching the sun set behind AO with some nice beats and a couple of sherbets before walking over was a nice prelude to the game.

I ended up getting a seat on eastern wing right in the thick of the enemy supporters. There some real bogan idiots but in general I don’t think it’s too dissimilar to any other away ground crowd. I ended up watching from standing room because it was so bloody cold down at ground level so take some warm clothing! Spent some time behind the goals too and it was fine - I wasn’t abused once all night and didn’t witness it.

It is a pretty special venue to watch footy at though - I’ll give it that.

Hope you have a good night.

I've worn my scarf though Adelaide on public transport the last 4 times we've played either Port or Crows and havent been heckled and Iam from Adelaide you'll be fine chell.

Its not the old kick a Vic days, a final tho may be different, keep that in mind for a future occurrence.

As for a pub their are two that spring to mind either the The Lion on Melbourne st or The Archer on O'Connell st.

Thanks for the advice and the couple of suggestions. I will wear the scarf based on your experiences haha.

The pubs you suggest look great but we are staying on the North Terrace side of the ground and would prefer to walk from there. However, if I don't receive suggstions around that area, I will make my way over to The Lion

Agree with McQueen, ripper ground to watch any sport at. Crows fans are feral, as are any clubs really. It craps all over the pain in the bum place to get to, Footy Park.

Been to see us play Port twice over the last few years.  AO is awesome and great to just walk from town.  I'm going and I'll be on the hill too, maybe we can have a beer

its not as bad as you might think, I always feel safe, wear my scarf, have some banter with port fans.  just don't be a [censored] and youll be fine.

not too many pubs inbetween north terrace and the oval unless you want to go to the casino or a strip joint.

im actually on the look out for a decent pub also so im appreciating the tips from everyone

G'day DubDee....

had a little look around the pubs that were suggested and reckon The Cathedral is a nice starting point.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
