Interchange changes to reduce congestion

To limit the effect of the interchange, each team must rotate a different player to sit on the bench for the whole of each quarter. Having only three interchange players per quarter might limit the overuse and abuse of the interchange. If the effect is not enough, the number on the bench for the quarter can be raised to two. At some point the crowding should ease.

Further, introduce a rule that no player may be interchanged more than once each quarter.

These rule changes should reduce the amount of congestion at packs as players will seek to conserve energy. It's easy to run to every contest if a player knows that a rest is coming.

If these rule changes have the expected effect the afl can stop blighting our great game with the nonsensical alternatives considered by Shocking this week. For once, Bucks is right (written through clenched teeth).

Why do thew want to dig the whole deeper all the time...

 

....... instead of just back peddling and undo the things that got us into this mess.

 

They don't even have to change the number of rotations,,,, at least to start with.  It's really BLOODY simple.

 

Just reduce the interchange to 3 players and 1 sub for 2019...  and then to a 2 man interchange with 2 subs for the 2020 season.

So clean and simple, with no new regulations, laws, interpretations, or any other bloody mess.

This is the sort of thing that leads me to think they throw out the really wacky stuff so you'll pleased when it's 'only' moderate changes in the end.

I have been thinking about congestion, the look of the game, the speed of the game and scoring. I believe I have come up with changes to Aussie rules which will make everyone happy and take the game into the third millennium. 

I have to play golf now but I will let youse know tonight. I think you'll like them.

Every rule change over a 20 year period was designed to speed up the game. Interchange is the one that allows players to run all day. 

Keep reducing it. Don't listen to the coaches as they have never been interested in the look of the game.

Less interchange and you will have less congestion. personally I'd be happy with 10 per quarter. 

And get rid of the other non-playing people on the ground clogging up space. Runners - gone. Yesterdays relic and entirely unecessary. Water carriers - only allowed on field after a goal.

Problem solved.
