Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 11

Don't see Simon Goodwin laughin and looking that genuinely relaxed much.

Don't see Demon's coaches in general doing that much in my time!

Clearly we're doomed. Or about to break a record. Or something.

Full moon, too.

Minor quibble. I don't think the suspension was at all controversial. Bugg's action that caused the suspension might have been, but not the suspension itself.

I still don't reckon he actually meant to hit him in the head.

Our fifth test in a row, apparently.  Three "should beat" tests, a "good team" test, and now yet another "should beat" test.

Our poor lads are going to be knackered by the bye after all these tests.

Maybe. Then again perhaps every match is a test  until we win a Flag.

Intriguing notion, this idea of "Supporters as Team". Just because supporters are frothing at the mouth over achievements in the last month doesn't mean the actual team is thinking the same way.

That's where the MFCSS kicks in.

It's not rational, but I can't help shake the thought.

I'm just not used to be confident.

I doubt any of us are.  But even so, it's a lot better than only looking forward to the match to see if our latest messiah turns in a good game.

Doesn't mean much, except we've potentially got Tyson, Hunt, Garlett, Peds, Bugg, Stretch and JSmith as genuine AFL players - add in Frost, Kent and Weid and that makes a 'squad' of 34 or so before we get to the true development/prospect types (and not meant as any disrespect to them). Such a great position to be in, most experts talk about having a squad of at least 30 to play/win finals and we've got that now. Hopefully we use some of them to held keep the team fresh and on their toes about each position which will drive us even further.

This is a definitive asset to mix and match to research into team selections against other teams we will play on a week-to-week basis.

The 'yipps' only come out ...... at night. We are about to roll to the Grand Final, folks and there ain't nothing that the AFL can do about it.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
