What would you pay more money for to help the MFC further stabilize?

Well posited. So many responses on DL resort to personal attacks rather than comments and thoughts to stimulate discussion, not abuse or worse. Opinions are rightly held freely and put forward so that others may agree or disagree and this enables to reader/thinker to digest and comment without abuse or directed venom. The quality of the writing can make it difficult for some to rise above the former two observations but these also provide indicators of who might well be largely ignored, in future. DDee, your idea was well put and so is your stance. Persist.

I raised the idea of linking with an education provider, similar to what Richmond has done.  Essential services is where you will generate an income stream, either by creating something yourself, or a strategic partnership.  A few months later, we announce our alliance with Chisolm.

The only feedback I've heard from DaveyDee has been how we "copied" Richmond.  No communication acknowledging that my idea had merit, and definitely no follow up when the club made the announcement.

DaveyDee picks and chooses who/what they respond to.  It's rarely when there is a chance of a decent discussion, and they would much prefer to dismiss the views of others, take pot shots at the club, or just being a sarcastic poster that comes in and tries to flex their muscles by trying to convince us that they know best.

The bottom line here is purely this. We are a club that is in a city of 5 million people, we have at this point 40,000 members and we must share the city with 8 other clubs, so revenue is tight

A hell of a lot of Australians gamble on anything, not me, but i am in the minority. So if we get rid of our machines, the revenue is lost to someone else, the gambling won’t stop.

Replacing $10-12 Million per year would be nigh impossible, let’s be honest.

Poker Machines are legal to use.

Same as online Betting last time i looked.

Just remember the AFL doesn’t pay tax, but you can be sure the clubs do

I was unaware of this and was commenting to support his post and its stance, despite the invective that seems to arise from several sources. Thank you, 'The Chazz' for the further enlightenment but I stand on that support simply and unhindered. Carna Dees,

I would be interested to find out a little more about this educational link and how it operates, and what are its criteria and intent, more specifically. Was in the education game for 43 years with multiple links myself; Chisholm  was one of these.

Under his alias Dr Who he blames the supporters negativity for the fact we haven't won a flag since 64. Never thinking that perhaps the lack of success bred the negativity, not the other way around. He's a troll and not a very good one.

Thank-you for your input - a certain serenity has returned over the thread.

Despite the obvious abuse, insults & misquotes that arise from certain individuals - hopefully we can get back to Demonland offering some positive input into finding an alternative source of income - irrespective of the outcome of other revenue sources.

Thank-you also for engaging with others who I don't see all their posts ( for obvious reasons ). I'm looking forward to being flooded with positive innovative ideas. Maybe Grapeviney can take it up on the podcasts - just a thought.

I think we should invest in more pokie machines. They seem to be a pretty decent money spinner.

This is the first positive comment you have made in the thread. Would not worry me if they bought more might be a buyers market a few other clubs are committed to get out.

Importantly- Just not sure how the AFL would react - we might get 22 games a year in Darwin. Then hear the squealing. I also could not see our board & CEO approve it.

Many of our supporters complain about the fixture, they complain ( hate ) the poker machines, they complain about our CEO & Board - really all they won’t to do is complain.

Without sighting the MOU, I'd imagine that Chisolm can now promote their Dip Sport Development/Dip Sport and Rec Management course to have an element of it delivered at the MFC.  By having access to top class facilities such as what an AFL club can offer, they (Chisolm) would be hoping for an increase in student enrolments.  They could also have access to the Casey facilities, given the course is offered at the Cranbourne campus.

In return for the MFC, for opening their doors to these students, I'd imagine there will be a financial incentive for the club.

With the course costing around $20k, we could charge something like $5,000 per student to learn in our facilities.  If we can build the program to get around 100 students per year enrolled (it's only a 12 month course), there's a potential $500k income stream for not doing a huge amount.

For Chisolm, linking with any AFL club will be a big selling point for students.  It's also something students wouldn't tend to walk away from depending on what club.  Just having the chance to work with any club is a big drawcard.

That's only rough guess of what could be the agreement.

Well said, think you will also find there is an opportunity to do "joint" function/s ( not of the smoking type ) where we can attempt to get access to their AFL "undecided", "no club", overseas students, we capture them in their early years and encourage them to stay for the rest of their lives - as their income capacity increases hopefully we get an increased value of membership.

Dont forget a membership number by itself is not that important - what is important is the revenue/profit raised thru memberships.

Our alignment with Casey, and the work that we do in that region is where we are gunning for the "AFL undecided", et al, that you talked about.

Partnering with an education provider is more about what I said than what you said.  Yes, we will be happy to pick up a few extra members here and there, but the primary purpose of this partnership is to provide an additional generation of income.

I'm happy with that - any extra $$$$ at the moment is more than welcome

Essendon & RMIT once you read thru the “spin” are making a straightforward play to increase their membership numbers via overseas students!!!!! With all due respect to The Chazz the idea is primarily designed to grow memberships and incomes anything else is a pure bonus

Not a problem, personally think it’s fair to say , I can see AFL clubs diversifying income streams and Educational Institutions are a great source of information & more importantly cheaper “graduate talent”

Only you would see it that way.

How many memberships would they need to sell to generate an additional $500k income p/a?

Ha, you continually prove you're a troll.  In this post, you say "you can see AFL clubs diversifying income streams and Educational Institutions are a great source..."

You have not once hinted in this thread that you feel this way.  I even planted the seed early in the thread that this was an avenue to tap in to.  Crickets from you.

Then, when it was announced about our partnership with Chisolm, you think we are "copying" Richmond.  No criticism of Essendon doing the same.  And also, you are supporting the Educational Institutes to generate income streams, yet criticise our club my club for copying when we do it!

Hahaha I was all over the Tigers deal a long long time ago and many other initiatives. As I said our relationship with Chisholm I have no problems with I have no problems with working with Australian Leading Educational Institutions - I do on a daily basis.

However, I was hoping for innovative ideas  - but such is life copying others clubs and you repeating it is all fine from me.

You continually prove many things to me but I will refraining from throwing insults - I’m actually glad I can put you back on ignore.

Wasn't Doctor Who engaged in some covert attempt to take over 'Ology at one stage when the owner was having health issues? From memory, he was going to put in a rule insisting we refrain from criticism of the club and we only could post positive content.

Or am I getting him mixed up with someone else?

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
