Okay - I am late to arrive on the podcast scene but have now been listening to some great stuff over the last couple of months.

A must listen isย "serial" - especially the first one and from the same people "S-town".

The other podcast which i have been enjoying is "those conspiracy guys" - this podcast does not reveal too much new stuff but it is 3 Irish dudes talking a bit of fact and whole lot of really amusing nonsense. I only have to hear an Irish accent and i get the giggles.ย

Yeah,ย  I'm heavily into podcasts nb ... Movies & TV shows mainly.ย  But for something different,ย  'Inside Psycho' & 'Inside The Exorcist' are both extremely good (both rank high on the various podcast charts) 'This American Life' is also quite good.ย ย

For any movie that I've really liked or for a particular favourite movie,ย  I can listen to as many as 10 podcasts to re-live that film.ย  Once done,ย  listening to that many podcasts about a movie often makes one want to watch that particular movie again!

The intriguing part about podcasts is that anyone can do them ... and because of that,ย  they are not exactly big money-spinners.ย  In effect,ย  podcasts are like a community service out in the public domain.ย  They're here to stay for the same types of reasons.

Serial and S-Town were unreal. Actually looked forward to getting out of bed and heading to work in the morning coz I knew I could get through an episode in the carย

I just finished listening to S-town which was very good. I occasionally listen to the Joe Rogan Experience when he has interesting guests on there which I would recommend checking out.ย For my moreย macabre interests there is one called "The Last Podcast On The Left" where 3 comediansย goย into depth about differentย serial killers, murders, war crimes and things like that which can be very funny at times and extremely morbid.

There is so much good stuff to listen to. Thanks !

I listen to a lot of podcasts now, in no particular order here's some of the better ones I've listed to:

  • Serial (both seasons)
  • Black hands
  • Trace
  • Dirty John
  • Crimetown
  • How I Built This
  • Reply All
  • S-Town

Anything by Gimlet seems to be good, very polished and the hosts are always excellent.

S-town was quite amazing i thought - it made me happy, sad, smile, cringe and angry at any given minute. John McLemore was the most complex person I think I have heard of.

If you've seen the hit comedy 'The Big Sick' here's an excellent podcast which includes interviews with a number of the stars of the movie (Holly Hunter,ย  Kumail Nanjiani,ย  Ray Romano & Emily V Gordon)

I've enjoyed a few podcasts on the commute to work. I really enjoyed Serial. I love TEAM Effort for a laugh. It's Ed Kavalee, Tony Martin and a range of guests. The early Cracked podcasts are interesting and funny. They've really gone downhill over time though.

For history buffs - Slow Burn - a podcast about Watergate - really good.

  • 3 months later...

Here is a dramatised real-life tale of survival worth a listen.ย  Given up for dead the survivors of a shipwreck remained on a freezing barren island half way between Cape Town & Antarctica for 7 lonely months.ย

Tell me a Shipwreck (55 minutes)

That is an excellent find nb ... I've listened to 4 of the 8 episodes so far and it is first rate and very enlightening.

Came across 3 podcasts lately,ย  all of which hit upon different themes - The Mafia,ย  Covert Operations & The World Game.ย  Worth a look ...

S-Town was magnificent. Might have to revisit that one.

Started getting into the Joe Rogan experience again lately but mostly in the form of YouTube clips. I wish they would do like a 1 hour condensed version of the show just don't have time for the full 3 hours!ย

This one is worth a listen ... X-Files styleย  Limetown

And this podcast Homecoming was the forerunner to the newly released TV Drama with the same title (which stars Julia Roberts)ย  The TV series is also very good.ย

For guitar players,ย Guitarwank is a good one...http://www.guitarwank.com

Bruce Forman & Scott Henderson with Troy McCubbin (Host)...and guests (sometimes).

Bruce and Scott are killer players, very different styles and personalities making for very interesting and often very funny conversations.

I also like Shane Theriot's "Riff Raff" podcast...Shane is the guitar player with Hall & Oats but his background is from New Orleans and he spent time playing with the Neville Brothers and Dr John to name a couple of legendary acts there.ย https://shanetheriot.com/shane-s-podcast-the-riff-raff

While it is also broadcast on Radio National, Late Night Live with Phillip Adams is top notch. He covers aย wide array of topics from politics, art, literature, economics, science to whatever else is thought provoking. The people who whinge about his supposed bias have usually never listened to the show or if they have, they have been too attached to theirย preconceptions to give it a fair go.

I listen to Rogan IF he has an athlete or outdoor type person on. However, his 'academic' and philosophical interviews with people like Jordan Peterson, Dave Rubin and Brett Weinstein are bloody interminable (though his interviews with Neil DeGrasse Tyson are pretty good). I find them grating not because of ideological perspective but because they drag on and on and I just end up screaming at my IPhone, 'Get to the bloody point!' I appreciate that he wants to cover a lot of ground but it feels like you are on a merry go round at times. Plus he is a bit of a woo-meister.ย

I listened to Freakanomics for a while there but it felt a bit too vanilla for mine. I also got shiffy when they devoted a podcast of Lance Armstrong trying to publiclyย rehabilitate himself. I felt it was them platforming him.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
