i don't need this so I am retiring from demonland. I have enjoyed the banter over the years. All the best to you all. Go Dees.

There was no provocation.

You said we paid overs for Lever so I asked you a question.

Since when is asking reasonable questions provocation ?

But anyway, it's silly to quit over 1 point.  I have many more than that.  Show a bit of Wattsy style mental resilience.  Imagine what he's been through.  Throwing in the towel over a lousy point ?  Get a grip.

This is my concern from observing his actions over the year. Clearly you feel he has motivated the team over the year so could you help me understand the following:

1. Our poor first quarters where half the team doesn’t show up

2. Our performance against the bottom 4 teams

To me this is a motivation / mindset issue that he has not addressed.

Flim flam.

Secondly, you're assuming my "feelings", although in this instance you're correct.

There's no reasonable basis to make your assertion against a first year coach that got his team to the most wins since 2006.  Just flaky arguments from afar.

How do you think Clarkson went in his first few years ?

What is clear is that the players love the coach.  This has been clarified by plenty of people with connections to the club.  The fact that we come back from so many horrible positions to either win or nearly win shows they listen to him in breaks.  The rest will get sorted.  There was still a very young team being fielded most weeks.

You're making concrete conclusions from weak assumptions, in my opinion.

I'm not sure if you're jesting, but incase you're not, I disagree.

He is a speculative pick in the 50's who is young and developing but does not possess the talent levels or attributes of any of those players I mentioned. Mainly because they were all top 10 picks. (Bar Viney because of f/s and Lever because he didn't play any of his last underage year. Both would have been top 10 easily if not for those variables).

Oscar is in the 'maybe' make it camp atm.

It's Weideman.

The list was based on high end talent. And both players were top 10 picks and were highly rated for a range of reasons.

I've said my piece regarding Sam many times already.

Supporters are incredibly short-sighted, impatient and generally clueless about Sam and the circumstances surrounding him as a player.

There are young and developing players like Oliver. And there are young and developing players like Jayden Hunt and Weideman.

Oliver leapt onto the scene and has been playing at an incredibly high level for someone his age. Going into Hunt's third year, he hadn't yet debut at AFL level let alone dominated a game at VFL. Do you understand why though?

Probably not given your criticism of Weideman.

I'm not sure how many times posters need reminding, but Sam (just like Hunt with his back injury) was so far behind the 8-ball with his body and we've been lucky enough as a club to have the forwardline depth to keep him at Casey where contrary to some views, he's been developing nicely.

Going into his third pre-season and first full one, he will now be prepared to have a genuine impact at AFL level. I'm not saying he'll dominate, but his body will allow him to at least contribute at AFL level while he finds his feet and it's going to be a confidence thing before he starts performing on the big stage.

He has the perfect set of attributes to play as a power full-forward.

YES ! You are on the the right track with  Sam and with a solid preseason he will manage to allow his development over the three years do the talking. He will become a power player in the similar vein of a  Neitz.

Watts trade was a terrible decision and terrible outcome for the club. A rookie decision by a rookie coach.

Except that Goodwin doesn't make either list management decisions, nor trade decisions. Also, re the Watts trade, Mahoney (who isn't Goodwin last time I checked) has constantly stressed it was a FD decision.

On the other hand, don't care who made it, clearly the right decision and best for the club (and for Jack).

What about Freo yes they lost a good young player in Weller but to get pick 2 and Matera in return was A+. The draft this year is still going to give you some good players down to around pick 40 what it lacks is the depth in the clear gun players after around pick 6.

Freo have 2 picks in the top 5 and also got their prime target in Wilson who will combine well with the Hill brothers

Poorly thought out by Freo. Can I ask what are they going to do with picks 2 & 5 in this draft?

Can I suggest they will take 2 highly rated Victorian kids - if they are any good they will be targeted and induced by the go home factor in 2-3 years, if they are no good Freo can keep them.

Freo should have banked the picks and targeted better quality WA kids next year - but maybe the coach cant afford to do that.

Yeah well - dont think in practical terms that is correct. At trade time "the voice" of the coach carries most of the weight.

However, definitely from an external point of view that is the line all clubs push - the "decision"  was made by the whole of the FD.

Poorly thought out wtf they held their nerve after everyone in the footy media said they were ridiculous to expect pick 2 for Lachie Weller.

Not every kid goes home after their first comtract if I was Freo I'd be taking the two Vic country boys in Davies-Uniacke and Dow if they are available

the footy media - ah you must be right.

Sorry I elected to think for myself - I don't rate picks 2 & 5 in this draft for Freo. The names of the kids are irrelevant - if they are any good they will be gone, if they are no good Freo can keep'em.

Welcome to 2017 player movement is easier than ever.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
