Is the zone anything like the vibe and if so how do you hold people accountable for bad vibes?

There's really no such thing as one on one defence anymore, its all about zoning, "team" defence etc....the Eagles lost a huge chunk of their backline through injury at the start of the 2015 season and ending up playing off the in GF largely due to the "Weagles Web" (stupid name). Similarly the Bulldogs are very hard to score against without having any big name key backs at all.

I don't think having Garland and Frost/Wagner out is really going to be the difference between us beating St Kilda or not, its about how well we defend the transition at Etihad, implement the zone and most importantly consistently hit targets so we don't get killed on the rebound.

Agreed.

The individual players are important, afterall talent is talent, but a team's system of defending through the midfield, forwards and backs is just as important.

Sydney beat the Saints last week and Grundy was just about their only key defender.  It's all about the quality of the system when it comes to defence.  Our system last year vs the Saints was hopeless.

We have to contain Nick. We have seldom been able to and seldom beaten them.

The system won't be worth two bob if we let him roam around unheeded.

I'm really looking forward to the tactical battle and seeing what Goodwin has up his sleeve: I'm sure he hasn't shown everything in pre-season.

Using two apostrophes is always cause for alarm.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
