‘ Outback Warrior’ & ‘Gold Mag’ were impressive in their debuts and won by decent margins Macca. Both show ability, but like you said there’s a number of lightly raced horses and sometimes the jump from maiden grade to a BM64 isn’t always plain sailing.

This really is a good race for betting especially the exotics. Spoke to mate yesterday and they are 95% certain they will run tomorrow. Horse is also nominated for Sale on Thursday but with the track rated a Heavy8 down there Sandown is a better option.

I will head down to the track tomorrow, it’s been a while since I had a ticket printed from an old style bookie. Looking forward to it.

The race itself has gained a fair bit of interest ... and we may get a glimpse of a few future stars.  Certainly racenet.com have the race featured - Experience the key for Outback Warrior at Sandown ... anyway,  good luck with the bookies DZ!

In other news the grey flash is back in the news.  Fingers crossed that the horse gets back on track out of the barriers ... Friday jumpout for Chautauqua

And here's the field for the Darley July Cup to be run on Saturday (featuring Redkirk Warrior) ... I reckon I've just about figured out their rating system over there - and a very good system it is too.

They've still got Redkirk Warrior (10-1) rated on top and I've a feeling the horse will run well at Newmarket.  Main dangers being 'Blue Point (3-1),  Brando (14-1),  Sands of Mail (8-1) & Invincible Army (25-1)

El-Mag ran a good race but Gold Mag was way too good ... I think they ran in the 1:12's so the race didn't seem to be necessarily set up for the swoopers.

But the winner had other ideas - one for the black book.  The Hayes/Williams team again.

What was the verdict after the race @Dee Zephyr ?

G’day Macca. Gold Mag was very impressive. That was some turn of foot. El ran a good race, did a bit of work early and was a little under pressure upon straightening but fought well to the line.

I didn’t get the full rundown as connections were quick to leave after the race. Will have some more when I speak to mate later on.

El was quite agitated an hour before the race win the traffic surrounding his stall. They had to move him to a quiet location, maybe that had a part to play.

Not the result they wanted but another race will pop up soon. I’ve taken a couple of pics but I’m having trouble uploading them for some reason.

Apologies for the shot, not sure why it’s come up like that.

Couldn’t resist, Williams is a legend!

The connections might want to start looking for a few easier races DZ!  It seems the horse keeps running into one gun horse after another ? It will need a heart as big as Phar Lap's to cope!

That’s exactly what mate just said to me. It was very hard to ignore a win like that. Like you said Macca, Black Book for Gold Mag. Thanks for the article.

Some talk El struggled with the step up to 1200m but he was happy overall with the run. Not a fan of the jock but he admitted the ride was a good one today. They’ll find a suitable race soon we hope.

The day ended up a good one in the end, I could no longer ignore Williams, backed his runner in the last. Got upwards of $14 with the boost.?

There's a few interesting betting races on Saturday that might be worth a wager ... even the small field in the feature sprint event at Caulfield is tricky.  A 2 mile staying race at the Sunshine Coast has got some familiar runners - same deal for the Winter Stakes at Rosehill.

The Redkirk Warrior race should see a reduced field from the current 19 acceptors and David Hayes is quietly confident that the horse can finish in the first 3.  Here's the short interview from Racing Pulse

Saturday's feature events ...

Best Bet is a place bet this week ... but the horse in question has some outstanding NZ form and can win.

Rosehill Race 7 No.1 Hiflyer $3.50 (Win $15.00)

As stated, the horse has some terrific Group-level form back in NZ and is the highest rated horse in the race ... drawn the inside gate as well.  The horse has been running very good times as well - I spotted it last night but Paul Joice from the Sky team also has it as his best bet of the day.

Place only though as it's a fairly hot field in the Winter Stakes.

Chautauqua – He jumped!

The horse now needs to complete a barrier trial at Rosehill and then will be set for a comeback race on August 4th (Missile Stakes) ... and then 'The Everest' where a slot is apparently assured - confirmed by the owner,  Rupert Lee.  Great news!

The jockey (Tommy Berry) reckons it was the best he's ever jumped - and the speed was still there.

Best Bet:

Caulfield R6 No 3 Mount Kilcoy $2.80

Weir/Allen combo. Terrific in defeat the last two starts, on the quick backup but you can’t question Weir. Down in the weights again and the form is screaming out for a win. Bloodlines indicate the step up in distance is ideal.

What if i went Newmarket Race 3 No 6 Redkirk Warrior ....place? Its paying 3.20 plc on Ladbrokes....Would everyone be able to put that in a multi?

I really cant find much else except Mick Prices horse Masculino also paying 3.00, but its drawn barrier 14.

Masculino is in the same race as my best Wadda. Quinella is settled then.

I fiddled around on Tab and you can put Redkirk Warrior in a multi.

Ok Redkirk it is then.

Maybe quinella is a good thing for best bet>?....cant see anything else getting near those 2

I fooled around on ladbrokes (Broke Lad) and got around 34s for the combo.

At least the place back up bet is easy...with 2 places already!

I'm watching the races from Newmarket fellas and the straight is configured the same way as Flemington ... and tonight they are racing down the stand side - a speciality for the mighty Redkirk.  At Ascot they run in a straight line as well but the horses run or lead with their other leg - David Hayes calls it the Sydney way which doesn't necessarily suit Redkirk.

Anyway, the place bet is a good option - I like it a lot.

Through these winter months it's hard to find a winner so why not have 3 chances at the place at good odds ... and again,  a multi doesn't need a large outlay to win a decent amount.

The Redkirk race is tomorrow night Wadda but they are racing at Newmarket tonight as well - on the free-to-air racing channel right now.  The racing is so different over there but fascinating nonetheless.

Ah cool, thanks....had me worried there for a minute.

Interesting i couldnt put a quinella in a multi on Ladbrokes Macca, yet you can at the TAB. Ladbrokes are very smart normally, so maybe there is a good reason......(like they pay too much).

I also agree with the place thing at this time of year. You can get some good place odds so why not. As you say there are 3 chances.

I reckon you have to look at the good horses for the place though ... Voodoo Lad at $1.60 seems good value as well - acting as an odds 'booster' in a multi ... 'Gator' from the Get-On crew has got the horse winning.  France at $1.45 to lift the trophy?

The Demons line seems a tad high at 41.5 though ... we will win but maybe 1-39?  ... paying $2.45.

Received a tip.

Caulfield R8 No4 Lord Sundowner $19 & $5

Horse was bolting last start and was held up. Jock stopped riding as he had nowhere to go. Let’s hope the same doesn’t occur as he’s drawn barrier 3 and likes to settle near the lead.

I’ll pop a few each way, in case of the you know.......“PL syndrome”.

Agree with all of the above, although Croatia could surprise...If France score early, they will shut the game down. I dont think ill be taking the 1.45 tho.

Love Voodoo Lad, but he needs to show something this run for mine.....done nothing this prep...but place for sure.

We dont play the G that well. 1-39 seems sensible.

Good luck guys

They are down to 7 runners in the Monash Stakes so Voodoo Lad is now 4.20/1.90 with no 3rd dividend ... I've put it in a small F4 whilst hoping for the right configuration.  The horse is better suited in this race and especially at Caulfield.

Nice pick @Dee Zephyr

The 1st leg accomplished with Mount Kilcoy ... did it easy.

Edit:  Hiflyer just misses a place ... looked gone then fought back but no cigar.

Bad luck Macca. Looks like Voodoo Lad saluted as did our quinella on race 6 @ Caulfield.

DZ and I had an excellent afternoon at the G.

Redkirk started well and it looked like it was leading the field up until the last 2 furlongs.  Didn't have the usual finish up the hill to the line though.  It was checked after 400m but I don't believe that can be used as an excuse.

Anyway,  nothing ventured nothing gained ... the Merchant Navy win more than makes up for the disappointment of the Redkirk Warrior campaign.  Flemington awaits the return of the horse.

Well we're likely to see at least 2 American horses in the 'Everest' field following the commanding win by 'US Navy Flag' in the July Cup - joining 'Bound for Nowhere' with probable slots for the race.

The race is shaping up as an absolute beauty ... Aiden O'Brien could walk away with the chocolates too.  What a master trainer he is - and he's got a real soft-spot for Australia and the racing scene here too.  You'd reckon he'll be lining up a few of his horses for the big 3 feature races in the Melbourne Spring too.
