Ok im going early. Ace has drifted out to 15/1. Thats enough to make me think there is something up or they are just putting it in for a run. or they are setting it for the next race......Somebody may also want to take Kentamari .......

I am going with Merchant Navy in the Newmarket R6 Flemington. I like this horse, hes down in the weights good barrier, strike rate 7:5.0.1

Theres a lot of talent n the race, but $5.00 is pretty good and thereabouts for our best. Will need some luck and Redkirk is a big danger. Hopefully the weight might get him across the line.

Continuing my theme of looking for the class horse which is the best horse I'll go with 'Kementari' in the Randwick Guineas as my best bet.

Found a few standouts at Morphettville & Ascot but they are just good horses in inferior fields.  We've got the 2 best bets so far so it's over to @Demon77 & @binman

Here are the 2 best bets so far ...

Flemington  Race 6  No.11  Merchant Navy (5.50)

Randwick  Race 7  No.3  Kementari  (2.90)

Australian Group & Listed Races

Nice one Macca, love your work.... had a feeling as soon as i take out Ace High, that stands out a mile. (although Ace High the place is very tempting).....So does Gailo Chop actually. Weight for Age sniper ive been reading and at 3.00 its right up there.

Is it 5.50 now? Tab.....i was looking at Racenet.

You can get $6 for Merchant Navy at Ladbrokes (enhanced odds)

And I also like Gailo Chop in the Australian Cup Wadda whilst also being concerned with Redkirk Warrior and Brave Smash in the Newmarket but ... Merchant Navy (52kgs) has only ever carried 55.5kgs up to 58kgs.

Oh nice homework there...didnt realize that...Steamboat Special then!

15.95 for those 2 also.

Whats Ace High paying the place Macca?

With the other 2 best bets to come I will be doing the 4 trebles ... we're due for at least 3 of the 4 to get up.  Just a small outlay on each but the combined odds will be a lot better this week.

Spot on....i like those 2 into Gailo Chop as well.....takes it out to close to 48/1. Seriously good odds for those 3.

Yep ... with the odds booster I just got 47-1 for the 3 saluting.  As you said Wadda,  that is excellent combined odds for 3 very classy racehorses.

Sorry fellas on a quick break. I like Merchant Navy a lot but I’m glad @Wadda We Sing picked it because I can count my winners down the straight over the years on the one hand.

Im having trouble so far but plenty of time left to find a “spesssshallll”.?

Its not easy this week. Plenty of good horses in every race......more of a pick and hope week i reckon.

I browsed through Sydney and Melbourne and there’s definitely some great value on offer.

Ace High seems to be getting the wobbles in the markets. Out to $14 as of tonight. He’s drawn well and could easily find himself in the first few on the fence. Show A Star (Race 9 Syd) has drawn poorly again and although the $8 is tempting it’s best to wait on him at this stage. Some real shorties going around in the sprint races in Sydney.

At this early stage Shillelagh (R7 Flemington) looks a good bet at $4.20.

Edit: Brave Smash back in distance.....hmmm? Craig Williams suggested this according to a news story I came across a few days ago.

'Show a Star is also entered in the 200k Canberra Cup on Sunday ... currently showing 4.60.

In fact,  there are a few horses entered for both Randwick & Canberra.  The Black Opal Stakes for 2yo's is now worth 300k as compared to the 2 Randwick races for 2yo's which are both also worth 300k.

I was torn between two runners for “Best”.

Shillelagh and Gailo Chop.

Best Bet: Flemington Race 8 No.4 Gailo Chop.

Odds: $3.00

Shillelagh is the highest rated horse in her race and her form reads better than it shows. Samovare (favourite) worried me out of it.

Went with the Chop as he has been earmarked for this all along and you can’t fault him at the moment. I go back to a Caulfield review of a few weeks ago when the experts stated he would be extremely hard to beat in the Australian Cup.

I noticed he’s drifted a tad to the $3 mark as Almandin has come in from $6 to $5.50 in the last 24 hours.

Enjoyable viewing coming up on Saturday and go the Dees!!

Some feedback from my Santos mate. There was a very strong head wind last week at Randwick and Santos faced the brunt of it during the run. It was a very tough and gutsy win as the horse looked like he might get swamped with about 100-200m to go.

Top pick D77.......Chop Chop......Ok so that makes 3 runners at odds of around 47/1...again i will get on early as they could come in....

They will all run.

Yeah, he had no cover for most of the race, hence connections being ecstatic with the win.

I thought Caulfield was the only track where the wind causes chaos.

Well maybe he is a good thing for the Slipper?..........just got to be careful with the hype tho..odds are good, so you can back a few....still 11s?

It’d be nice to get this one home. Since you have given us the Newmarket winner I’ve decided on Merchant Navy/Brave Smash quinella/exacta.?

Well....you’ve said it before. Any Gai runner is a chance, like on here, my mate knows there are some very talented sprinters in the race.

Yeah, $11W $3.50P currently.( TAB)

Terrific value at $11 but you’d have to go back to 2009 for a horse (Phelan Ready) at double figure odds winning the Slipper.

That’s a good question, I’m not sure the number of legs permitted for a horse multi. I’ve only tried a max of 4.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
