I also liked Bella Vista who I’ve been on before but yeah Pippie was the best.

Mystic Journey back in town as well

I was on Greysful Glamour who loomed large and then dropped right out

Playing exacta's at Rosehill tomorrow but I reckon Arcadia Queen or Russian Camelot win the Underwood tomorrow.  Marked them both on top (clearly)

As for the Golden Rose,  Rothfire should win but Ole Kirk will probably be flying home.  North Pacific is a chance too.  Out of those 3 you'd imagine Gorg

Having a poor day unti” Humidor in second and prime candidate gave me a nice shot in the arm.

I got a couple of half decent collects (late) to break even for the day

Terrible start but that's par for the course ... I often wonder why I bet early

A reasonable % of the trifecta in the Golden Rose helped a lot!

I am superman saluted again. Big fan of that horse.

Won well too ... I thought you'd be on it!

Haven't watched a race yet but I'll watch some replays soon enough.

But Russian Camelot,  Ole Kirk,  Instant Celebrity & Windstorm seemed to be the standout highlights of the day.

And Crosshaven looks a likely type by the sounds of it

I think prime candidate ran a great race, I am superman ran well,  Junipal also ran well and after telling mates I’d be on it, I only had it in a trifecta. My bad on that one.

Overseas Group 1 replays first up with the Oz Group 1 replays to follow

Managed to snag a one-off UK double in the 2 x Group 1's as well as the 2 win bets saluting but no such luck in the USA!

There are decent odds to be had with overseas Group 1's and the form is often easier to match up as well.  The smaller fields can rule out the exotics but the races are often truly run as a consequence

And here are the 3 Group 1's held in Oz over the weekend.  All 3 winners stood out but it should be noted that Rothfire fractured a sesamoid bone during the running of the Golden Rose and will be sidelined for at least a year.  Sad news

Bad news on Rothfire @Macca

Ran well yesterday.

Might be career over too.  Such a shame if so.

But horses have come back from such an injury (albeit intermittently)

As soon as it got passed in the straight you could tell something had gone wrong with the horse

My favourites are the sprinters so I already had a lot of time for the horse.  Hoping for the best

Yeah should have said was running well yesterday. Did look like it hit a wall, but I didn’t think of it at the time.

And I got a decent collect with the trifecta on the back of Rothfire breaking down.  I still would have got the trifecta if it won or got into the placings but it would have been a low dividend

So I got lucky as I reckon we all do when we win a good amount

Luck works both ways and we're never owed

Sure does, I mean I seriously didn’t think Prime Candidate would win, thought it would place and give it a show, stoked it did at the price it was,

I had a bit on Prime Candidate at its last start but had an exacta on the race yesterday and didn't include it!

Wouldn't have had Purple Sector anyway so it's all moot.  Exacta paid $777 though.

Racing at Kensington & Ballarat on Wednesday but I'll be looking @ J-Mac's & Bowman's value mounts on the Kenso track.  Just a few win bets & a couple of one-off doubles. I generally get my money back if I get one winner.

Pick up a double and it's a good day at the Wednesday races!

I was on this as well. It beat Morissy last start who ran 3rd to Windstorm at Caulfield about 10 mins before jump at Rosehill. I reckon that was pretty good form line. Thank god for bet365's drift protection that got me $4.60.

I still don't tend to agree with "best bet" having value.. My best bet would be the horse I think is the best of the day whether it's paying $2.50 or $8... Anyway my bet is:

Flemington Race 9 #9 - The Brumby

W $12/P $3.80

I agree with you JV (somewhat) but are others going to be able to use a short priced favourite if that is one's best bet?

As previously stated,  over the last 3 years I reckon I've tipped about 25 winners but no one has seemed to use that best bet other than possibly in a multi.  And multi's aren't for everyone

I've also missed about 50 or 60 times so those tips have been of no use at all!

Personally,  I'd rather evaluate a value pick and go from there.

But people here are free to do as they please ... I'm more looking at it all from a practical viewpoint.

Just put up what you think best.
personally I usually like a mix of both and others thoughts sometimes make me re think a horse, notice a horse or consider a longer value horse.

Like today, I said legionarie but was also thinking Portland sky.

But I really liked the 6 choices in the main race.

Macca, I usually don’t back shorter favs as I don’t usually put enough on to make it worth it, but do like having them in Quaddies, multis etc so def have their worth.

Good luck to all on tomorrows punt. May we all back a heap of winners!

Our 3 picks adds up to 25-1 (boosted) in a place multi.  None of them have to win

The value runner adds way more scope ... Win,  Exotic,  Quaddie,  Place Multi etc

But people can do whatever they like.  Converting the best bet to the folding stuff is the key

Got your's in an exacta and a place multi

Good luck to all that are having a punt tomorrow.  Nearly all the races at Flemington are good betting races whilst up at Randwick,  there are some real standouts that appeal

I just noticed that ... my place multi is down to 2 now!

I put my exacta's on tomorrow and I'll add another pick to the other 2 to boost up the odds in a place multi ...  you got another choice JV?

No rush

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
