The stewards have laid down some quite stringent rules that the horse has to pass so it might be the end.  But who knows?  The connections might keep pressing forward.

If the horse had have refused to jump outright today that would have been it according to the Stewards so it probably gets another chance.   The connections may or may not press on ... although,  apparently the horse has jumped out at its last 6 jump outs so they'd be in 2 minds.

'Graff' looks the goods ... beat a decent field with ease in the San Domenico.  Kris Lees the trainer reckons that Graff is the best colt he has ever trained - Black Book.

Yeah i saw he said that. Pity Santos didnt run.....think he might have beat that lot.

@Dee Zephyr  gets one up for the team with 'Danawi' ... well done DZ!

Close at the line - real close.  You hate losing by that sort of margin so the luck was on our side this time.

Yep great win. Hows our strike rate looking now Macca.

Edit: I think you can leave out the pick that came in late after your horse had jumped. Dont think it counts. People need to get their bets in earlier than that.

Again,  if one was to back all of our tips to win and then multi them up as well,  you'd break even (or better) today.  5.00 - 5.50 was available for Danawi (late)

I went down the trifecta path with all of our picks and ended up with a very similar result.

Edit:  Adjusted the best bet strike rate to the correct figures

And 'Don't Give a Damn' salutes.

The horse was our very first Best Bet ... yours truly selected it and it won back then as well.  Didn't pick it today but It's got to be a favourite of our's now.  Got the trifecta with the horse winning today (albeit a small dividend) A win is a win though.

It's a good honest horse that is very consistent.

My brain just won't work today (hits head against wall) ... fixed.

I'm usually reasonably good on the run too.  Age waits for no man hey Wadda ? Just as well you're here

Me either Macca. Its all the stress of the Dees making finals!

Wow looking good. Weve only missed 3 races.

A funny day at the races today ... had enough collects to save face but so many of the races were even affairs that I felt like I was guessing a lot.  But I knew that going in so no complaints.  The track bias at the Valley copped a bit of a caning from a few of the trainers too.

Next weekend will be more clear-cut Wadda with 10 of 11 of the Group or Listed races being WFA,  SW or SW+P races (Randwick 4,  Caulfield 5 (1 Hcp Listed race),  Morphettville 1,  Belmont (1) ... including the $1Million Memsie Stakes of course.

Sorry fellas on best bet. Wrong choice. Obviously. Cant use my home computer atm as renovating office. So trying to do stuff on phone.

Got track bias right. Summer sham wrong. Note to self best bets should always be good horses. Actually had a fantastic day, with 7 winners. Three at mv.

Excellent point BM ... if one is to dip-out,  better to do it with a class runner (especially at this time of year)

My choice was in a benchmark 78 race and I've learnt that lesson.  Was looking at Hiyaam closely but thought it needed the run but it did fly home.  A watcher though.

I really liked Avilius too even at the short odds - and it duly won in fine style ... Punters lament!

I was close to choosing avilus too. But it was too short. Same with grunt. I was close to choosing paret as best but even though i backed it hesitated. Class will out. In hinsight best was theanswermyfriend. Backed ir but really was too short

Apart from the big Group racing returning next Saturday with the Group 1 Memsie Stakes along with 3 other Group 2 events,  racing also returns to Sha Tin next Sunday after a 7 week break.

I really like the truly run racing at HK which makes dissecting the form a lot easier.  Plus,  following the Aussie jockeys & trainers up there can pay-off too.  There's usually at least 2 or 3 high quality feature events run at Sha Tin most Sunday's.

And here's a couple of Group 1 events raced overnight at Saratoga (USA) over the classic Mile and a Quarter & Mile and a Half ...

A sad ending but a fabulous career looks like coming to an end.

I had thoughts that the owners of Chautauqua might entertain a stint in Hong Kong as there are 5 x Group 1 & 2 races and a few Group 3's in their Oct to May sprint-race calendar - but that's a real long shot.  Excellent prizemoney up there though,  all the same.

Chautauqua banned from racing - a grand career surely over (owners to appeal)

Quote

There remains one final step in the process.

Chautauqua's owners are unhappy with the Racing NSW stewards' decision and, as such, have been invited to make submissions on Tuesday.

"Managing owner of Chautauqua, Mr Rupert Leigh, has informed Stewards that the majority of shareholders in Chautauqua intend to make submissions in response to the Stewards’ preliminary decision," a Racing NSW release said.

"As such, Racing NSW Stewards shall hear those submissions at Racing NSW’s office commencing at 1pm on Tuesday, 28 August 2018."

As it's turned out it's not quite over for Chautauqua at all .. another trial beckons and it seems that the connections are so determined to run the horse that my Hong Kong alternative may well be an option ... Chautauqua is back from retirement

Latest odds for the Memsie Stakes ... a quality field with at least a handful of genuine winning chances.  A good betting race

image.png.0cb07b0f22267e5e1a1e8ba9262a63d5.png

Some very good fields assembled for Saturday ... just in time to start up our trifecta combo if we want to continue with it.  I'll leave it up to others to decide although DZ has already given it the go-ahead.  I'm up for it.

If so,  Wadda gets to have 2 picks in the rotation and that continues for 4 Weeks or the month of September.  And we could just come in with our nominations whenever we want - just as a change up.  Saves us waiting around for others.

Anyway,  here's a choice of 6 races and I've marked the Memsie Stakes on top.  Click on any of the links below for the Racenet.com form for that particular race.  I tend to click on the 'ratings' within the link to put the horses into ratings order.  Or sometimes the odds order.

Best Bet

Caulfield Race 6 No.6 Seabrook $6

There's an omen bet if I've ever seen one ... there's only 1 turn over the 1200m at Caulfield and this Mick Price Filly is sure to be flying home.

Ran some eye catching runs in its first preparation including a win in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes.  Both Gator & Hutchy have also picked it to win.

Can somebody explain to me why Hartnell is 13/1? Because i have no idea.....it returned the other week in red hot form and was only 3 lengths off them....? 1400 is a good distance for him ...no??

Well you all know who im gonna pick.......

Caulfield: Race 8 No 3  Voodoo Lad $3.50

Back to his favorite track, barrier 3 and Weir has him flying atm. Clearly the one to beat in that field.

May be Wadda because all the money is flowing towards Vega Magic,  Kementari & Happy Clapper ... I suppose that's what Group 1 racing often does 'odds-wise.'

Showtime is another with real claims and even Dollar for Dollar is a chance.  And then there's Grunt & Black Heart Bart who can't be counted out in terms of getting into the finish.

The Memsie & The Tramway Stakes up at Randwick are the standout races on Saturday.  Absolute top-notch fields in both races.

I can find trifecta combo's but there's any number of winning chances in all of the feature events.

Well i guess your right, but he was sure flying at the end of the the last start Hartnell. Somebody on SEN said Kentamari will not get over being pantsed by Winx and will be unlikely to win.....

I think Le Romain might be a standout winner for a trifecta? Binman will probably best bet him as well! Hi Binman!!

I’ll give 100/1 for Hartnell if you like Wadda?. I wonder why they chose not to run him on Saturday.

Edit: The odds posted by Macca were prior to acceptances so maybe the betting was kept safe with Hartnell.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
