Round 23 Floating Fixture

Anyone know when the AFL are likely to announce exactly which date and time we'll play the handbaggers in Geelong over the weekend of 26-28 August?

I suspect it will be the Saturday some time, but would like to know sooner rather then later for two reasons;

One because it will be Roos last match as a senior coach, so would like to be there for it &

Two, my youngest son turns 1 on the 26th, so will be difficult to plan his birthday and making sure i can also get to the football on the same weekend.

If anyone knows when it gets announced, that'd be appreciated.

It will depend on wether Geelong are playing finals or not.

If they are they will be playing on the Saturday if not then on the Sunday.

From memory they usually announce it the week before.

This year the week after rnd 23 is a bye so the AFL may 'float' round 23 across Fri to Mon, or even later into the week (so the AFL can milk the bye:ph34r:).  The higher up the ladder Geelong finish the earlier they will play as the top finishing teams get the longest break.

I suspect if the AFL float it over a week rather than just the weekend they will announce it sooner rather than later so people can make travel/annual leave arrangements.

Even if not announced you may have a good idea by mid/late July where Geelong will finish...but please allow for the fact we might beat them pushing them further down the finals ladder!:rolleyes:

Thanks for the info.

Really not a fan of this weekend free before the finals (thankyou North Melbourne!), and wish they'd announce it by a set date.

Your question had me thinking as to which teams the pre finals Bye will help the most.  Traditionally a win by the top 4 teams in the first week of finals gives them a week off (a Bye) before the Prelim.

But now, for them the sequence to the GF is: pre finals Bye, 1st final Win, Bye, Prelim Win, Grand Final.  I wonder how many coaches actually want 2 byes in 3 weeks?  Hardly ideal preparation for the GF.  The pre finals Bye may actually help other teams more.

The extra Bye looked like another knee- jerk reaction by the AFL.  The Prelim games will be interesting to see which team is actually 'fresher' with better 'touch'. The one with 2 Byes or the one with one Bye.

The bye after round 23 is a disgrace and totally unnecessary. If North have top spot sown up before the last game, what's to stop them again resting half their side as they would have nothing to play for.

As for the original question, it got announced 5/8/15 last year.

Surely you are not seriously suggesting that the AFL would indulge in knee jerk reactions?  How scurrilous of you. :-)
