I am devastated that Alan Young, Wilbur Post has died aged 96! Was there a better sitcom in the 60's? And he was great in the Time Machine with Rod Taylor. They just don't do sitcoms these days that have such ridiculous scenarios that work so well. The Addams Family, Munsters, Mr Ed, Batman, Get Smart, has TV comedy ever been better than in the 60's?

Have to agree for the most part...and add to that list My Mother the Car, The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction etc.

There have been moments of brilliance since (The Bob Newhart Show, Seinfeld etc) but they have been few and far between.

Yes agreed DC, I think Larry Storch only died last year aged in his mid 90's. Not sure how Calamity Jane is going these days? But I need to add McHale's Navy for balance, Captain Bingham and Ensen Parker was it?

But my oversight was to say US situation comedy!

Brittish humour is another story, we had numerous comedy classics like Monty Python, Not the 1948 Show, Not Only But Also, Q8, Yes Minister, Yes Prime Minister, the Two Ronnies, the Royals, ABFAB, Black Adder, The Office, it goes on and on.

British humour at its best is the best. I don't believe you can top Peter Cook and Dudley Moore in full flight,

And I have not included Please Sir, Mind your Language, On the Buses or Benny Hill. Got to set the taste bar somewhere!

On the passing of figures from the more than memorable past of comedy, the death of Bert Kwouk (Cato in the Pink Panther films) has just been announced.

That was really An attack that I did not expect.

Quite a surprise.

British humor is such a case of two extremes - you have the brilliance of comedies you mentioned in the third paragraph and then the last paragraph ..ewww....

I am a huge fan of Ricky Gervais and I thought his genius really shone in his series "extras"  - he wanted so badly to be an actor of note and the only great success he had was in a sitcom that fell squarely  in the "on the buses" genre. The conflict he portrayed in that he loved the fame and success and this was countered by his hated of the product. "derrick" was a masterpiece IMO - had me laughing and crying constantly.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
