The massive difference between Essendon of 1993 and Melbourne of 2016 is that Essendon had made finals 9 of their previous 12 seasons. 

I think the baby bombers tag was a bit over-cooked. They were a perennial finalist that still had many senior quality players that year.

And they were also fined retrospectively for breaching the salary cap. Should have had the Premiership taken off them
