Herald Sun Phantom Draft - Top 30

Featured Replies

6 30pm start aedt, but who knows how much fluff to begin with

Does anyone know what time the draft acually starts? I can't find out from the AFL web pages - they won't tell me presumably because they want me to watch a whole lot of bilge first.

7pm

I assume they have done away with the 10 -1 count down which sucked and will just call them out starting at 1?

the coverage couldnt be worse than last year - but I back them to somehow lower the bar. lets talk to some kids' parents while pick 25 is being read out and we can't hear it! arrg!

It's impossible to overestimate how low they'll go. Foxtel at its best.

What i heard was that the recruiter's no longer call out the player # and name. They select them via the new fandangled computer program. Coach then gives them their guernsey as per usual, including the # that they'll wear.

afl.com.au have both a video and radio stream, SEN will be doing their usual thing.

On foxtel the fox footy channel shows the draft including player interviews, whereas i think fox sports shows the draft in it's entirety for those that just want to watch the draft and not the usual interview cut-ins.

As some may not be able to read it I'll put below the order of Sam's Phantom Draft.

1. Carlton - Weitering

2. Lions - Schache

3. Swans - Mills*

4. Dees - Oliver

5. Scum - Parish

6. Scum - Francis

7. GWS - Hopper*

8. Gold Coast - Milera

9. Dees - Weideman

10. Blues - H. McKay

11. GWS - Kennedy*

12. Crows - Ah Chee

13. Blues - Curnow

14. Tigers - Gresham

15. Lions - Hipwood*

16. Crows - Burton

17. Saints - Tucker

18. Hawks - Rioli

19. Gold Coast - Balic

20. GWS - Himmelberg

21. Norf - Clarke

22. Lions - Keays*

23. Hawks - Collins

24. Blues - B. McKay

25. Dogs - Dunkley

26. Dogs - Bonner

27. Freo - Cole

28. WCE - Hibberd

29. Scum - Mathieson

30. Scum - Mitch Brown (mature age)

As always it's a different take and worth discussion. Sam will get some right and some wrong like everyone else. So be it.

I reckon Oliver and Weideman would be perfect for us. Strong bodied, aggressive midfielder, and a strong key position high marking forward. Complements Jesse and the mid field group perfectly. Exciting times!

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
