2015 Player Review - 13 Jordie McKenzie

Featured Replies

Good on jordie will no doubt have surban/VFL clubs lining up for his signature. Heck im gonna pester my own club to get onto him!

Two pages for a bloke who played one game?

I'll take that as a tribute to a bloke for whom others have said it better. Gave his all, never shirked, makes you wonder what some others might achieve/have achieved given the same spirit and work ethic.

Good on you Jordie, thank you for your efforts, and all the best.

my favourite player. :(

Less than one in one thousand boys born in Australia each year will ever play a single game of AFL football.

Jordie is one.

Of those who ever play a game, 80% will have shorter careers than Jordie.

Better career stats than Crowley.

Jordie (pick 1 2009 rookie draft) 79 MFC games v Scully (pick 1 2009 national draft) MFC 31 games.

Massive respect.

The generosity of spirit shown by the contributors to this thread stands in stark contrast to the meanspiritness of the knockers and the naysayers who have ridden on this honest kid's back over the last 7 seasons.

Agree with much of that although it's difficult to compare stoppers on the strength of statistics alone so you could argue about the Crowley comparison.

On the other hand, I have no doubt that Jordie would have had a much better record in a better team and there's a chance that he might still have a role somewhere given the example of Kyle Cheney who has managed to play finals football at two stronger clubs after he left us.

I loved Jordie as a player, simply because he he gave every ounce of himself every time he entered the field of play for the mighty Demons. It's a trait a lot more talented players on our list could learn from. What's more, he was a 'heart and soul' player for Casey, when it would have been easy to have dropped his head when the writing was clearly on the wall about his playing future. Well done and good luck Jordie, you can be proud of your achievements as a Demon.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
