2013 Player Review - # 17 Sam Blease

he'll be a sweetener I reckon...or part of something convoluted.

Perhaps. I'd happily trade him for anything useful - I think he could be used to upgrade a third rounder in to a second, for example. I wouldn't trade him for scrap though (ala Martin and Morton trades), might as well just give him one more year and see if Roos can salvage anything from his career if there are no worthwhile offers. I'm not confident of a happy ending though, has all the hallmarks of another blown top 20 pick I think.

I agree with you WJ.

I honestly think what you see is what you get with Blease.

I would trade him today.

For what? What value does he have?

A year under Roos is his last chance.

Very possibly there Nasher and Im not suggesting we would come out of it shining but he , for mine, is a one trick pony and the trick is hit and miss.

I know he's on Roos's big question list but now maybe Paul is in the chair he will evaluate more circumspectly towards what assets can really drive this team and what can be developed. If his only value is to upvalue a pick , then that might be it. The list needs weeding.

Doesn't have a defensive side to his game & can't run out games. I don't think he'll fit Roos gut running style of game.

He has x-factor, but will he have the drive to work hard enough under Paul Roos? Needs a big pre-season if we hold on to him, build his tank so he isn't puffed after a 100m sprint.

I still think he can become a player for us.

I guess Roos will have had his tete a tete and will have formed an opinion as to whether he is worth persisting with.

IF Roos feels he can get much more out of him than he has shown to date then good luck to him; if he doesn't he may go on the table (or delist dependent on contract status).

We all have to just trust Roos' judgement - though I am sure it will only take a few weeks of less than brilliant results for some here to come out and say what a dreadful mistake it was to hire him, they could see it all along etc etc.... :-(

Blease needs to improve his endurance so he can run out a game. Sadly for someone so fast, he rarely chases or catches his opposite number, he needs to address this if he wants to make the grade.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
