The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Featured Replies

OK. I'll go with the big draft rumour of the day.

Rumour has it that after taking advice from the club's consultant on draft matters, a Mr. Prendergast, Melbourne will pass on pick 9 due to a lack of suitable candidates for the position. The following potential candidates were considered but found unworthy:-

Acres - concern over shoulder injury

Aish - too outside

Billings - probably out of our reach

Bontempelli - tall for a mid and might not fit the bill

Boyd - can't fit him into the side

Crouch - lacks the necessary athleticism

Dunstan - one sided, poor disposer of the ball

Freeman - query by some on disposal

Garlett - too much of a behavioural risk

Hartung - too small

Kelly - definitely out of our reach

Kolodjashnij - name too hard to pronounce

Lennon - tested poorly and not really a midfielder, more a half forward

Rioli - too fat

Salem - didn't do enough at national carnival

Scharenberg - a utility, not a mid

Sheed - one paced and doesn't tackle enough

Taylor - midget, no defensive game

No decision has been made as yet as to whether the club would utilise pick 40 (which of course, now becomes pick 39).

After looking at that, perhaps we should just take Kolodjashnij and just change his name, problem solved/

I have a better idea. Kade Kolodjshnij has a twin brother, Jake.

They both change names by taking on their brothers' first name.

Gold Coast takes Kade (who's really Jake) at 5 and we take Jake (who's really Kade) at 9.

Simple.

How about we don't take Kolodshinj and we take Freeman or Scharenberg?

The advantage of taking a twin is that we could always ensure that one would be available each week compared with some particular players (e.g. Clark & Dawes) who perpetually break down.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
