Training - Friday 25th January, 2013

Featured Replies

Excuse my ignorance but who's the young bloke in white with 4th footy from the right?

I watched training on Monday and he did a couple nice things putting blokes into space during the match sim I thought.

Looks like Tom Couch.

He has looked really switched on and hasn't skipped a beat. Col had a great duel with Howie in the match simulation stuff today. They were pretty competitive, those two lads, and really wanted to get the better of each other. Col will be important for us this year.

Who won?

Anyone know how J.Tynan is traveling?

I'm really interested to see if the likes of Tynan, Strauss, Tappy & Taggert can step up this year and help our team improve.

Back at work yesterday for the first time this year so I left the reading of this thread till this morning and I wasn't disappointed.

Thanks for the terrific contributions from those who made it to the session and reported on it here. There were some terrific insights and I'm looking forward to attending my first pre season session on Monday. I won't even bother taking my camera because I couldn't match waynewussell's work - thanks.

I'm glad they're going around on Monday because I've long regarded Australia Day as the date on which we farewell the tennis and the cricket and well and truly enter the run towards the start of the footy. The fact that I've grown a bit disenchanted with those two sports makes the anticipation of the football season even greater, especially since I'm looking forward to great improvement from the Demons in 2013.

These reports have been helpful but it will be great to see for myself first hand exactly how the blokes are travelling. There have been some glowing reports here but I've heard from some others that they don't believe our skills have improved all that much. I guess we'll find out soon enough when the real stuff starts but Monday's still a big day for me.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
