Eight wins gets us back to where we were under Bailey. We need to play finals, and fast. Anything less is failure. Our club has been at the bottom of the ladder since 2007 and we can't last there too much longer. We play finals, or it starts getting even more ugly.

Don't confuse Desire with reality.

The simple facts are we were uncompetitive in 16 games last year.

We have added one good player, two average players, a number of players that were not good enough the first time round and a couple of talented Kids.

The kids will hopefully show their worth over the next 2 -3 years

With a little luck with injuries and the hope all the new players gel quickly we should improve.

However to expect a enormous jump from uncompetitive to finals in one season is wishful thinking IMO.

After being uncompetitive for most of the time between 2007 and 2012 we have no choice but to endure modest improvement each year for the next 3 years .

I have one burning desire for next year. There's another team that has presently become the flavour of the month and I want us to jump over them - Richmond.

We definitely need to play finals in 2014 - Neeld's third year, so next year 9/10 wins should be the aim.

Actually theres more to it than this alone.. We have not only added ability but just as importantly I would suggest we have removed inability, we have got rid of ineffectual players., we have moved on some poor decision makers etc.

The difference between what we can put on the filed in '13 and what played ( often ) in '12 is so far removed from each other as to be almost unrecognisable in many respects.

This is a REALITY. we're not going to be sending out a 'bandage' job in 13 were fielding a half way decent side that needs to cement itself and evolve.

9-10 might be the result... 14-15 wins is the aim ^_^

Obviously you're not familiar with the power of The Secret

I don't disagree with your basic argument bb.

I just thing a little perspective is in order.

We have seen the false dawn a few times recently.

We are coming from a very long way back.

Lets not forget at the end of this season we probably had a dozen players of AFL quality out of 44.

We have changed 13 the job is way from completed with our list.

All the new ones will not be good enough some will not measure up.

I will accept walking in 2013 followed by running in 2014

I am one of the minority who has voted that we finish Final 8. The basis for that is when another supporter posted two teams on a post our AFL top 22 and our second tier (VFL)team which also looked strong. For the first time in a while (baring injuries) we finally seem to have depth and we still have two rookies to recruit.

GO DEES!

Posted 10 November 2012 - 11:07 AM

My optimistic side just jolted out of control and I put $50.00 to win $500.00 via sportsbet for Dees to make the eight.
As you can see fro the above , I've already put my money where my big mouth is and the subsequent training reports I've read have only confirmed my "optimism". Go dees in 2013!
BTW I also backed Australia to win the test series against South Africa.

I agree BBO i reckon the "8* is good value. ive done similar. :) ( im not backing the Aussies though....well not with money..lol )

we have a fit list at the moment...so signs are looking good for the dees.

clark and dawes are running and kicking...the club just needs to nurse them through preseason.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
