Herald Sun reports Gysberts to be shown the door...Neeld has gone mad!!!

Featured Replies

After Malthouse's first year at Collingwood when they won 5 games he delisted or traded 12 players. He delisted or traded another 6 after year two. That's 18 players he turned over in two years. They went on to play in 4 grand finals over the next 10 years.

You do realise that after a terrible 5 year period that judgment calls are made on mediocre players ? Or do you want more of the same ?

hmm...wonder whos going NEXT year..... lol

(sorry...couldnt resist )

In reality I accept that Neeld needs to be given to at least round 6 next year. It would also send a terrible message if we sacked him before this time.

You see...this is why you leave people gobsmacked. So sacking Neeld 1 year and 5 matches would send a terrible message but 1 year and 7 matches would be fine ?

We have been a basketcase on field because of our players and a series of coaches have comfortably taken soft options and had modest expectations. We finally have a coach who is prepared to say that modest expectations are not acceptable and surprise surprise-certain players dont like it !

I got caught up in Bailey's message " they are still young, they are still young". Neelds message to me is "we are young and inexperienced but that doesnt excuse you from working your butt off and trying to execute the way I teach you".

I for one would not delist or trade Cook but I back the coach to have discussions with his assistants and the players themselves and decide if they are up to the challenge to be the best they can be.If he deems that he sees nothing in Cook that gives him any hope for the future then thats good enough for me.

I beg the board not to accept membership money from softcocks who want to back players who arent happy with a coach who makes demands. (actually not necessary as they are usually on here saying "I am never buying a membership again"). Three cheers for a coach who says to the membership, the players will either commit to being the best they can be ( which takes a lot of hard work - something half of them wouldnt know about) or there's the door.

And to depress people even further Malthouse said it took 5 seasons to get the players playing exactly as he wanted.

Bang on

What's transpired is that over the last few seasons (decades?) the tail has been wagging the dog, and that's not going to continue under Neeld.

And some people want to go back to status quo? Why? It got us where exactly?

There's been a lot wrong with the club over the years. The drafting. The development. The coaching. The (dare I use the cliche) culture.

Neeld, Misson and Craig IMO are the 3 most important figures with respect of our on field fortunes.

Neeld coached one of the best midfields of recent times to a flag at Collingwood, a club renowned for having elite fitness etc

Misson helped with his injury management, the Swans to their first flag in over 70 years

Craig left Adelaide with a strong, mature, highly disciplined list, primed for the new coach

I'll take these guys advice over people who don't like seeing their favourites swept out the door

So hypothetically Viney 12 "Jones for Tippett plus draft pick" would you be happy assuming Jones is one of your favourites?

If it improved the team

I no longer care about the individuals

I care about the team

If trading in Tippett got a closer to a flag, bring it on

You'd rip the fabric of the club out if you agreed to this I believe, but can see your rationale Viney 12!

If IF it brought us closer to a flag

Have the exits (confirmed - Moloney; not accounting for Jurrah this was out of our control) and mooted exits moved us further away from a flag?

Not in my opinion

It does not depress me further nutbean

At about 5pm on Saturday 31st March 2012 that was apparent to me.

By the end of April I knew that it was going to take 3 years just to be competitive and probably 5 - 7 years to be top four material.

My feet are well grounded.

I think most people know we are in for a long slow grind to get from the bottom to the top eight let alone higher.

A bit of optimism Old Dee! They didn't have free agency back then so I have faith that we can move up the ranks quicker than that. Some canny recruiting of some more battle-ready players and it shouldn't take more than a few years to get back into top 8 contention.

The "fabric" is flea bitten and rotten so I have no problem with ripping it.

The IF is also spot on and time will if Neeld and co's no prisoner approach will bear fruit.

However "there's an old saying,if you keep doing things the same way, you're going to get the same results"- John Galusha

Hands up who is sick of doing (and accepting) the same things and getting the same results.

I certainly am.

Neeld is the worst mistake our club has made since sacking Norm Smith. I have already put money on the Dees for the wooden spoon next year.

I beg the board to fire Neeld.

You placed money on the Dees winning the spoon? Did I read that correctly? So you are going to barrack against the Dees all year to win your bet?

I know some people are problem gamblers but I need to ask: where exactly does the joy in your bet come from?

Totally depends on your idea of a "few" .

We are bottom material all the canny recruiting in the world will still take time.

I see us at the bottom and 2013 is the first year of trying to rise.

A lot of hard work is ahead

I hope you can tell me in 2015 that I was way out.

I am happy in the knowledge that I am comfortable Neeld & Co know better than me,what is required to get us up the ladder. I wouldnt get rid half of the players mooted but I am certifiably coward and love all players not matter how big a spud half of them are. I am not objective - I believe that Neeld and Co are.

Does anyone else think it's strange that when Cook and Gysberts were getting ready to suit up for Casey in finals speculation about their future surfaced?

Casey is now out in straight sets and we haven't heard a peep.

Once again we are trying to be broken down by certain elements from media and it's been happening all year!

F#*K em!

You're paranoid. But that doesn't mean that nobody's out to get you.

15 out of 45 sounds about right. No room for passengers. Carry on.

Agreed.

And that sounds like 30 odd who have so far 'bought in', to grab this club & lift it.

I must admit I wasnt concerned one iota when such a number was mooted. I myself only have 31 of the current list still there next season ( possibly more as a wish than anything ) but If the broom sweeps...let it sweep !! :)

Neeldy is doin' the Spring Clean, and practicing his new responsibilities. May take him a little to get used to, but He'll get the hang of It, I'm sure.

The number of 15 comes from a well known football manager who looks after a number of Melbourne players who is a close friend. I am sure you understand why I can't name the manager. I ask you if what I say is true, does it change your view? A lot of talent wants out.

As for your bet offer: I took odds of $7 but I would have taken $4 so why would I take even money. I do have a more mature idea though.

If you don't want to read my threads. ........ don't read them. Pretty simple really.

Do you think the club has had culture problems for MOST of the past 45 Years?

You placed money on the Dees winning the spoon? Did I read that correctly? So you are going to barrack against the Dees all year to win your bet?

I know some people are problem gamblers but I need to ask: where exactly does the joy in your bet come from?

Some people who are optimistic Pessimists, don't like any change, & would rather Lose well, than the fear of taking the necessary risks & cleanup, to advance the team into a Healthy & Vigorous side.

So gambling on the losers is somehow safer, & in their Comfort Zone.. 'more of the same'.

Id love to take some of that action ..lol

we wont be spooning in 13...but happy to take someones money :)

I think he should just donate the cash to the club, rather than to the TAB.

Is 'spooning in 13' a phrase that the kids are using for prostitution?

Gysberts is an inside mid with an outside mids body. His best work is done in close but struggles holding his body positioning. He needs to improve his work rate around the ground. His inability to spread offensively and defensively with conviction is of concern. If he doesnt improve these areas he will never make it.

You were a fan of Cook weren't you, wasn't you that said he'd be a good player for us? What do you think he has to do to improve?

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
